W H I S P E R S
Don't give in. Don't go towards the light. You're all that remains. "Where are these voices coming from? Are they the Gods? I'm all that is left?" All she knows is the shadows. All she's ever known is the shadows. But it feels too dark. Too cold. "Where is everyone? Where is Diaval?" The darkness creeps in around her, but there's a blinding light in the distance. The soft voice speaks again. Stay here, Seraphina. A deeper, harsher voice floats into her mind now, the tone mocking. Knock, knock lovely! Come into the light, it's much warmer over here, you know! The shadows seep in around her, her eyes drifting shut. The last thing that comes to her memory is being in the midst of battle mid-air and getting one too many gashes within her wings. Plummeting down towards the earth, seeing her brothers and sisters being struck down from the air, every last one of them. Their lifeless bodies twisting and turning through the night sky, blood seeping from wounds-and then nothing but red hot pain and darkness. Quiet whispers speak again. Seraphina. It is not your time. The scene plays on repeat through her unconscious mind, the voices still as clear as the first time she heard them. Her familiar, Diaval, searched throughout the dark Foxfire Bramble for hours before finally coming upon where she lay. He loyally stayed curled up by Seraphina’s bloodied side, fighting off anyone or anything that got too close. He didn’t dare leave for food or water for himself as Seraphina lay weakly mumbling to herself, She was found by Eren two days later while she was out hunting; she was skeptical to intervene due to Diaval’s aggressive manner, but she couldn’t bring herself to just walk away from her in her current state. Trust her. Dried blood stuck to her body, red-brown trailing down into the hardened pools beneath her. The earth was disturbed from where Seraphina desperately tried to pick herself up, but was unable to do more than upset the earth. Eren had offered Diaval some food and water in an attempt to show she was not a threat. Diaval was skeptical to accept, but also knew Seraphina was in desperate need of help and this strange dragon may be their only hope. Diaval allowed Eren to bring Seraphina back to her clan; She nursed her back to health over time and their friendship blossomed. She now wears a plume of feathers to cover the tears and scars along her wings and an ornament around her tail to remind her of her previous life and those she lost. |

Seraphina picked up the role of training new and young dragons naturally, although it wasn’t her favorite thing to do. She recalled the feeling of helplessness and yearned for others to never have to feel such an emotion. Young dragons said and did stupid things, boasting about their strength and bravery before getting swatted down by enemies like a fly on the wall. Newcomers came from all over and trained to prove their worth and serve under the Shadowbinder; She kept a stone-cold façade while training the others to ward them away from her. Others leaving hurt her, although she would never admit to that. A woeful type of energy follows her wherever she goes, only ever being seen swirling and jumping from the peripherals, never looking like anything but a mere shadow. She prefers teaming up with other experienced dragons to gather different items throughout the Coliseum. The others knew not to ask Seraphina of her past and to keep any conversation light and away from personal questions. Seraphina has had a few offspring, although the small majority of them went their separate ways to serve under their respective flights. After Eren brought her back to health and introduced her to the rest of the small clan, she took a fancy to Aries. She had two hatchlings with him before he left to serve the Shadowbinder with their offspring once they were older and trained. Seraphina is loving, although she hides behind a cold-hearted mask. She raised her two hatchlings to always be brave in the face of danger and to fend for themselves. She doesn’t speak of her past, but feels as though she is forever in debt to Eren for risking his own life in saving hers. She often stayed up into the ungodly hours of the night, staring up into the starry sky, wishing upon every shooting star that crossed by that those few still alive that she loved would remain safe. Seraphina dared not to sleep often, as the only dream that would come to her in sleep would be the recurring nightmarish memory of her body tumbling through the air. Wings snagging and snapping on branches and thorns as she tumbled through tree tops to come to a slamming halt on the earth. The pain in the nightmare feeling as real as the day it happened. Her old clan getting taken out one by one and falling... falling. Is it her slain clan whispering to her? No. It can't be. She's heard the voices since she was a hatchling. Teasing Death at His own front door while playing with weapons when they were left out and venturing alone into dark forests. Who or what are they? |
