Selkie is a charming, handsome Skydancer with a great sense of style. This is all offset by the fact that he is also a ruthless pirate. Using the engineering knowledge he'd gained from growing up in a Lightning Clan, he built his own highly-advanced ship, The Stormcatcher's Revenge, at a young age, and has been sailing across Sornieth ever since, thieving and raiding others as he pleases.

He came to use the Focal Company as his main base of operations due to the clan leaders' tolerance of his criminal lifestyle: they don't care how many arrest warrants or enemies he has, because they also have many arrest warrants and enemies of their own. Selkie brings a lot of trade and wealth to the clan, as he often sells his stolen treasures to his clanmates, for a hefty price of course, they must pay interest for the amount of effort it took him to steal these goods.

He has a fierce rivalry with the smuggler, Bonny. She disproves of his violent methods of thievery, opting for a more subtle, sneaky approach to piracy which doesn't lead to as many injuries or murders. Bonny often advocates for Selkie's exile from the clan, but is always rejected on the grounds that if the clan exiled every known criminal from their ranks then there would barely be a clan left at all.

His main companion is his parrot, Chatters, who is the only conversation partner he gets whilst out on the high sea. His ship is so advanced that he doesn't really need a crew, and thus he spends his journeys in solitude.
