Nobody knows what Lotan's deal is. He was living in the ocean surrounding the territory before any of the clan moved into the area, leading to him just being absorbed into The Focal Company after they realised he liked to drag rare items and fish onto the beach at night, free for them to take as they pleased. All anyone knows about him is that he's an extremely strange Ridgeback who apparently enjoys the water so much he never sets foot on land for more than ten minutes, and that he doesn't speak at all.He has a particularly close relationship with Gluttony, as she's the only dragon who likes being in the water as much as he does; the two often enjoy sunbathing on rocks near the beach on lazy afternoons. Oberon dislikes him immensely, considering him a nuisance and an eyesore. He's tried to drive away the Ridgeback many times, but since most of The Focal Company like Lotan much more than they like their clan patriarch, he's never been able to get rid of the wretched thing. Some wild rumours about Lotan have made their way around The Focal Company, some say he bashed his head on a rock while drowning, forgetting everything: his hatred of water, his old clanmates, and even his ability to talk. Others say he was cursed by a sorcerer, who not only made him mute, but also halved his intelligence, which they say explains his seemingly childlike personality. Whatever the case may be, Lotan is a relatively well-liked member of the clan, probably due to the fact that he sleeps in a rocky cave a couple of miles away from the shoreline rather than in the clan's lair. Distance makes the heart grow fonder, as they say. |
