The place is deserted. Deserted, save for her and the dying spirit. Past them, nothing but coiling mist, growing thicker and hindering her vision. The snake turns its attention to her- watching. Waiting. A mask lies half-broken in the already-wilting grass to her left, and a splintered antler lies not far from that, but she turns her focus to the round object in front of her. She's wary, yet enamoured by the glowing orb- so precious, so otherworldly. Maybe its soul, too, was hidden within, resting just below the smooth surface. To anyone else, perhaps it would look unimportant, like some sort of antique or trinket. A crystal ball, perhaps. But not to her. It seems to almost beckon her closer, drawing her further into the mist and closer to the cold, dying jaws of danger. Maybe it was pity, greed for power, curiosity. Maybe it was simply a mistake that she would come across the crumbling shrine that day. Maybe her destiny had always lain within the glassy depths of the orb she now lays a hand upon, only known to her when light fills her vision. But she knows, when she comes to hours later, regardless of motive, that her soul will never be solely hers again- it will always be within that sphere, the one whose power now hums softly from beneath her fingers. |
