Covenant is Sornieth's nearest equivalent to an attorney specializing in contract law. In the absence of world or even regional governments, there is no uniform body of law, of course. But she excels in finding ways to enforce agreements on those who might find it more convenient to break them.

Collateral. Leverage. Mutually Assured Destruction. Some even say blackmail. Sometimes all you need is the right witness. Sometimes it's the risk of losing face before every dragonclan and beastclan in the region. Default on a contract when Covenant is involved, and you'd best be prepared for the scorched earth approach. If there's any consolation, it's knowing that the party she is backing is equally committed to following through.

In addition to her "pro bono" work on her mate's behalf, Covenant is known for defending the rights of Banescales who lack the connections and resources to enforce fair treatment. The revival of an extinct breed has meant a new generation without a living heritage to call on. Covenant seems to have taken it upon herself to fill that gap as best she can; it's as though she feels herself bound to fulfill some contractual obligation to her breed.

Despite Covenant's fierce temperament, she's primarily a negotiator and litigator, not a physical combatant. Her constant companion and bodyguard is a dire hyena large enough to contend with most dragons. Deathgrip's bite has the uncanny ability to pierce magical defenses, and can even affect intangible creatures like ghosts or spirits. How she came by this ability is unknown; she has offered to sell the information, mediated by Covenant's services, but to date, no one has been willing to pay the asking price.
