Nameless, formless, ageless, these beings are the true lords of the Shining Court. Having rested in this underworld for eons, they lie in wait, shining their beautiful, intoxicating light. They peer into the minds of men and pluck at their heartstrings like grisly harps. They do not yet understand these creatures, but there are two things they are quite certain of: mortal minds are driven by desire, and mortal hands will carry them far from this prison.

An Introduction to the Court

Not one, but many. The original inhabitants of the court, the creatures that awaited them in the caverns, and the dregs of their many previous devotees.
One of the earliest sacrifices, the Lord of the Court nevertheless remains a favorite. He has proven himself more than loyal, and has given Them so much that They own him, body and soul. Still, he finds more to give, and thinks he is the one being spoiled. He will carry Them in his hollow heart to the surface, and They will feel the sun on Their stolen face.

A mind too clouded to read and too addled to use. Heliotrope has squandered himself with hedonism and drink, and is of no use to anyone. A shame- he could have been just like his brother.

The nightblade sees the Court and its machinations as beneath her, and eschews its customs. This is well and good. The less attention she pays to the mysticism surrounding her, the easier it will be to keep her blades turned in the right direction.

Someone must guard the Court. There is something out there, lurking in the darkness, waiting to strike- the knight is certain of it. Foolishly, she believes the danger to be coming from outside. She knows not what she is protecting the courtiers from. Nor does she know what she is protecting.

Perhaps the sycophant is too broken to be of any use, but They attempt to work Their magic anyway. Omen has been pushed to drastic measures before, and surely they can be again- if only their benefactors can find the right motivation. For now, they serve as the soothsayer's jailer, too enamored with him to let him out of their sight.

The soothsayer's visions are beyond even Their power to manipulate. He cannot even control them himself. His only desire is for the visions to cease, but They cannot grant that, and would not if they could. He will continue to peer into the future, and They will keep him where he can share his insight with Them- and only Them.

The artist's dreaming mind is easy to sculpt and shape, but his body too frail to carry Them far. Nevertheless, They show him all the beauty they can conjure, granting him the opportunity to capture Their majesty in paint. Unfortunately, despite his cataracts, he apparently sees through Their illusions.

Loyal and devoted, the cleric throws himself into his worship with a fervor unseen in even the most devoted courtiers. But he desires nothing more than the recognition of his betters, and is as worshipful of Tyrian as he is of Those Which Lurk. What has he to offer?
