The first thing she saw was grass. Dry, yellowing grass as far as the eye could see. The grass was tall and thick, but not enough to obscure her vision when she lifted her large, maned head.

She did not know where she was. She couldn't recognize any part of this place. Grass. A few dying trees scattered thin throughout the field. A boulder or two here and there.

The sky was bright, almost blinding to the dragon that had just opened her eyes. There was not a single cloud in the sky, and the sun's hot rays beat down mercilessly on the poor dragon who was rather fluffy. It was uncomfortable to say the least.

In a feeble attempt to get her bearings, the obelisk stood up on somewhat shaky limbs. She didn't recognize any part of this place. She was hot. She was dizzy. She was hungry. And she was thirsty. So, very thirsty.

The first thing to do would be to look for water, she supposed. This place was arid and barren, but there had to be something here.

Well, the was the plan anyway.

She heard a hiss in her ear, as if something was right next to her. However, no matter where she looked, her head whipping around frantically, she was the only one there.

"My Child... water will not do you any good. Besides, you will not find any here. Not enough for you."

She didn't recognize this voice at all. And again, there was no one around. Who was talking to her?

"Fret not, My Child. You cannot see me, and I am nowhere near here. But I am here to help. I can help you get what you need."

The obelisk, figuring that she had nothing to lose, weakly spoke up with a tired, dry voice.

"I am hungry... I am thirsty..." Was all she could manage to croak out.

"I know, My Child. You will not find water here. But... you can kill two birds with one stone."

It was clear that the dragon had no clue what this voice meant. Then, to her left, she heard a rustling in the dry grass. She slowly turned her head to see a gazelle grazing in the field a few meters away. How it had not noticed the giant obelisk was a mystery, as she was not particularly trying to hide.

"Right there... that helpless animal. Kill it. You will no longer be hungry as you devour its flesh. You will no longer be thirsty as you drink its blood."

There was a problem with this, though. An obelisk's diet only consisted of seafood and insects. She wasn't sure if she would even be able to stomach the meat and the blood of the gazelle.

"Do you see any large ponds here for you to fish out of? Do you see a plethora of insects, enough for you to eat and satiate your hunger?"

As much as she hated to admit it, the voice was right. There were no ponds here, and she didn't have the strength or the energy to travel. There may be a few scattered insects here, but nearly not enough for her. And that gazelle was starting to look... very delicious.

"Don't be afraid. You will not feel helpless once you've had a meal. How different can it be, compared to seafood and insects? A little warm, perhaps. A bit more blood, perhaps. But that is irrelevant. You are starving. You are suffering from thirst."

The obelisk crept closer to the gazelle, her deep, red eyes glazed with hunger... and madness.

"Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill! KILL!"

The obelisk roared and leapt, claws outstretched as the helpless gazelle could only stand there and wait for its impending doom.

...

There was nothing left but bones. Fresh, red blood soaked the obelisks claws and face, and dappled the sandy color of her mane. It was truly a gruesome sight to behold. But that did not entirely solve the obelisk's problem. A piece of her hunger and thirst had been satiated. But now she craved more. More and more and more and more and more.

"It's so satisfying to see how easily a child of the Earthshaker can turn into this. I am most pleased. Fret not, My Child..."

"...you will be a warrior of the Plaguebringer soon enough."

With a now frenzied look in her eyes, the obelisk roared again and darted off to find her new victim.
