______ Once a respectable, if not more peaceful than typically expected of these wild dragons, member of the clan, things went wrong for November the day he uttered the words, “Why must we fight to kill over the littlest of things?” The clan of Wildclaws, who pride themselves on their fighting prowess, all took incredible offense to his transgression. He was challenged to several duels, and though he tried to back out, his insult was far too grave to allow it. A lone, non-aggressive dragon, against several incensed Wildclaws… He had no chance. Though he fought valiantly, he was overwhelmed, and left within an inch of his life. His place in the clan utterly destroyed, his injuries far too severe to be worth patching him up, November was left alone to die.

______ As night fell and he grew weaker and weaker, he closed his eyes for what he believed would be the last time. And then, he heard a soft twinkling. With great effort, he opened his eyes once more, to see an entourage of ghostly blue fireflies. Within the swarm was a coatl with the most gorgeous midnight-blue scales he had ever seen. As he faded from consciousness, his only thought was ”At least my last sight was something beautiful.”

______ Against all odds, however, November lived to see another day, nursed back to health by February over several weeks. Though he was pulled back from the brink, his brush with death left him changed, the bones patterned on his scales forever a brand of how close he drew to departing from this world.

______ With nowhere to go, and indebted to February, November elected to stick by her side, protecting her and aiding her in her quest to give hope back into the world and find homes for the lost and hopeless.
