Biography

Grim
he/him

intelligent • loyal • patient
Grim wasn't always undead. Once, he was a normal fae dragon, born in Dragonhome and adopted by a wayward scientist and his (much more sane) assistant in the Shifting Expanse. He became a loyal sidekick, joining the duo on their assortment of misadventures - but soon after he did, something went very, very wrong. An experiment backfired, killing Grim and leaving only his bones behind. Thankfully, however, the scientist was able to revive him, reanimating his skeleton and bringing him back to life, although he remained a skeletal version of his former self. Despite this minor setback, Grim continued to act as a sidekick and protector of his two chaotic companions, largely unhindered by his new status. This went on for quite some time, and for that time they were all happy.

Things changed, however, when the trio moved to a new lab in the Viridian Labyrinth. This place was big and fancy, and although Grim missed the old lab he settled in quickly. Nothing was quite the same after that, however; the scientist's assistant began setting out on numerous excursions across Sornieth, pursuing new endeavors and exploring new lands, and these trips began to grow longer and longer until one day he simply stopped coming back. The scientist continued his experiments for a while, although he and Grim missed their old companion dearly, and then he too suddenly disappeared, teleported away by a freak lab accident. Grim waited for him to return, but he never did - perhaps he was trapped in another dimension, or maybe he just didn't want to come back to the lab. Whatever the cause, though, the scientist and his assistant were gone, and although Grim waited there was no sign of them at all.

The lab fell into disrepair after that, as Grim was the only one around to maintain it and he simply couldn't handle the work necessary to keep such a large place in good condition and defend it from the eternal encroachment of the surrounding jungle. The little fae resigned himself to living in such conditions, allowing the plant life to slowly reclaim the once-pristine lab. Eventually he lost all hope that his friends would ever return.

One day, however, an unfamiliar pair of dragons stumbled across the lab. These dragons were Isolde and Permafrost, who were out on one of their monthly sand-gathering missions and had decided to visit Isolde's birth clan while they were out. Intrigued, they made their way inside, where they were greeted by a long-deactivated robot secretary and a mess of broken technology and overgrown plants. Grim, meanwhile, heard their voices from where he'd been gathering insects outside and went to investigate. Upon meeting him and listening to his story, the two newcomers invited Grim to come stay in their clan's lair for a while. He accepted and followed them back to the Light domain, where he settled into his new home in the Lanternlight Clan.

He still returns to the lab on a semi-regular basis, checking in to see if his friends have come back yet. They still haven't, but he's taken up a position as the clan's reporter - something which his old lab experiences help with. Instead of helping with lab reports he now writes full-fledged articles about current happenings within the clan, and for the moment he's happy. He'll never forget his old friends, though...

How long will a broken heart stay whole?
'Cause I feel like I'm falling apart inside
I know you're afraid, but don't let go
No, I won't let this be our last goodbye

Fandragon of Grim, DanTDM's skeleton dog from his old Minecraft videos. Grim was loyal, adorable, and couldn't be permanently killed, making him a great pet... ah, those were the days. I miss those videos.
