Biography

Ghimpe
he/him

The statue stood still and silent as always. Moss grew over his feet and in the crevices of his pedestal. Afflicted with a rural curse, he had not moved in years, his stoney skin weathered and his eyes dull with disinterest. The Jailers had done this, had sent him out here, broken his wings and chained him to the stone. He was a prince, a warrior, once.

Now, he was just a statue, forgotten in a field.
But something changed.
After thousands of years, his body began to move. His legs twisted and bent, his feet flexing. Slowly, he lifted his head and turned it, staring at the horizon. The sun shone on his face, warming the stone, making it sparkle. His skin glowed with an inner light. And for the first time in thousands of years, he spoke.

"Why?" he whispered. "Why was this done to me?"

His body trembled, and tears glistened in his eyes. He remembered his name, Ghimpe, the name he had carried for thousands of years, a name that meant something in the language of birds. His shoulders trembled as he remembered his people, the fierce dragons that had once ruled the skies, the skies of all the world.
The Jailers had stolen his people's sky. The Jailers had transformed him into stone, binding him for eternity.

He was nothing, a forgotten thing.

"I remember," he whispered. "I remember."

In a flash of movement, he turned and fled into the fields. He ran as fast as he had once flown, his wing still heavy with gravel and chains. Ghimpe would find the wicked Jailers and bring them down. He would not rest until the sky his again.
