No one knows who Elkan was before he died. After all, he certainly won't tell.

The only evidence historians have to his life before death are vague birth certificates and hand-me-down stories, his parents documented as renowned tailors for the Light flight. Some dragons who knew of the family told of him as a bubbly young Spiral, eagerly trailing after his mother as she visited customers to deliver their hand worked goods. Others detailed him as a cold, quiet individual, never seen far from the tailor shop, never speaking more than a word before slinking away. The general consensus stands that prior to the accident, he had a way with words; his mother and father could work fabric in their claws like a musical maestro tickled ivories, fashioning anything their clients desired with grace and detail. Elkan lacked the same finesse, his siblings the ones intent on inheriting the family profession. He much preferred the spoken word, silver tongue able to coerce many into doing his chores or even deeds they wouldn't dare to do otherwise.

The battle that broke out when Umbra and Sol emerged from stasis shook the whole of Sornieth, but the Sunbeam Ruins and the Tangled Wood were the hardest hit by the calamity. Rumor stands that Elkan was one of the many casualties of the quakes that rocked the Lightbringer's domain, crushed under the shop's rubble. After the gatekeeper Revel took point to quell tensions between flights, his body was never able to be recovered, likely lost to the craters that broke apart the land. He among others were soon declared dead, life moving on as much as possible in the wake of the disaster.

How his wayward soul ended up in the Floating Heights is a mystery to all, but his presence was first felt by Leja, the Gale faction's reclusive but intuitive medium. She dealt with him as she did all longing spirits, spending countless evenings learning his story and finding what she could possibly do to ease his suffering so that he might go forth to the afterlife. Alas, the rumors of Elkan's devilish nature never quite reached the floating islands, and Leja accidentally summoned the restless soul to the mortal world. Too late to do anything but warn her fellow Gale members, Elkan had already begun to spread terror within the Flickering Woods, at first nothing but a small sprite able to lead wandering dragons astray to their demise. Eventually, he was seen with a body, the shoddy patchwork frame of a Spiral housing his bitter energy. Whether he crafted it himself or somehow retrieved an old heirloom from his homeland, he is the greatest pestilence to the Gale faction, forcing them into hibernation to protect their Omnia allies from his vile tricks.
