The bog water tastes sour within his mouth. Silently, he rises from the marsh, wet weeds clinging from his dripping form. The beast dwells within the depths for a moment, before slowly wading his way through river muck and pond scum. The long, drooping branches of rotting willows conceal his movements, and like a predator, he stalks through the swamp effortlessly. The scent is faint, but he follows it loyally, excited to feel warm flesh beneath his cold claws.

Catching sight of golden fur, he dips lower, slowing his forward pace. He begins to stalk his prey, a naive young buck. Just when it begins to dip it's snout in for a drink, the great Guardian launches himself from the water. His talons snatch the squealing buck and he greedily drags his victim into his dwelling. Blood mixes with water as the buck is submerged and drowned, the dragon's jaws clamped around its neck. Soon, the evidence of such a successful kill fades, only hinted by the small ripples that dance across the water's surface.
