Wading silently through the shallow waters, Heron says not a word. She watches and she waits but she never, ever speaks. You will be observed, unblinking from between the low hanging foliage on the outskirts of the Assembly, you might even feel the weight of her pale eyes as you pass through the merchant stalls. Heron doesn't come often into the more inhabited parts of the lair, but sometimes she just... craves a little company and it's hard for her to make friends. What with the... not speaking thing.

Instead, she communicates with magic, allows the wind to whisper through the chimes and bells she wears about herself; she whistles and hums and her eyes crinkle with unspent laughter. But she says not a word.

For if she speaks, there's no telling what might happen.

Some of the things Heron says become reality. Good or bad, big or small, doesn't matter. Perhaps she speaks a fatal hurricane into existence, perhaps her words cure illness, but she doesn't know which or when. And so she remains silent. Better not to say a word than utter one and risk some horrible fate befalling a friend.

So she stands silent. Long legs wading silently through the waters, never stirring the lily pads, never scaring the fish, never lifting the silt. Just standing. Watching.

Silent.

ORIGIN / Her powers became obvious when she told her brother, a travelling performer, to break a leg. And he did. Snapped it. Viciously. Thigh bone stuck out past his knee in a way it definitely shouldn't. Doctors treated him but they were just a little family in the Sunbeam Ruins. His wound got infected. Fatally so. No one blamed her, but Heron couldn't look any of them in the eyes anymore so, in the dead of one night, she packed a bag and left swearing not to speak another word lest it happen again. She'd like to see her family again one day. But not like this.

Fact / Caught between being anxious around others and desperately wanting to make worthwhile connections with them. When she does occasionally venture out, she enjoys the beach or the library (it's always quiet in the library). Jae is quiet too and she's been trying to teach Heron sign language. The lessons are sporadic so it's slow going, but it's nice.

Likes / Simple things. Watching the frogs hop along the riverbanks from a perch in the trees, sitting in the dappled sunlight by the waterways dozing and listening to birds, the sounds of life from the docks and bugs that buzz through the flowers. Some of the more introverted dragons can be quite good company too, and it gives her the warm fuzzies when she spends time with them. That feeling of being accepted is... unmatched.

Dislikes / When people ask her why she doesn't speak. If you can speak, they ask, why don't you. It costs nothing to not be nosy. Don't pry. Isn't that why dragons come to this lair? To not be pried into? At least the residents respect privacy.

Interests / Small shiny stones, snail shells, seashells; she has a collection of things that are just weird colours or shapes. Heron keeps snails as pets, too. Not for eating, not for fishing, just for... having. Probably why she gets on with Jangai.
