Occupation: Lead Caravan Cook Details: Sunburst is tasked with creating and preparing group dinners and breakfasts for the caravan every day during travel. This means making enough food for the merchants, guards, treasure hunters, caravan staff, and any weary traveler that the group picked up along the way. Because of this, he and his small team of caravan cooks wake up before anyone else to prepare the simple yet nutritious meals needed to sustain the group. A retired world-famous chef, he decided to take on this job to keep his skills sharp and as a way to see the world for free. He enjoys teaching others how to cook and prepare food and can be often seen trading recipes with travelers. When the caravan stops at a large enough city, Sunburst likes to walk the merchant markets to sample new spices and ingredients. |
Origins
Sunburst began his career in the culinary arts when he was very young. His clan was full of meat-loving Wildclaws. Each day, the strongest of their clan would go out hunting and bring back droves of meat for meals. They'd eat it raw and unseasoned. Every meal lacked flavor.This was not something Sunburst enjoyed growing up. His parents would bring him back the biggest, fattest piece of meat to eat so he would grow up strong and healthy. But he couldn't hold down his meals. Growing worried, his parents took him to see a doctor in the next village over.
"Hmm, a Wildclaw that can't eat raw meat. Have you tried cooking the meat before giving it to him?"
This was something his parents never tried. So, going back to their home, they threw some meat in a fire and fed it to Sunburst. To their delight, he devoured every bite! Soon Sunburst took care of cooking his own meals for himself (and eventually his parents who saw how delicious cooked meat could be).
Over time, Sunburst began to tire of the same, unseasoned flavor of charred meat. He resolved to venture into the world to learn more about cooking when he grew old enough.
When he came of age, Sunburst started his adventure. He'd travel from place to place to find new teachers and increase his cooking repertoire. At first, he had a difficult time finding anyone willing to teach him. He started his journey in his original home in the Icewarden's domain. Here, dragons were known to be harsh and unfriendly. However, as he made his way to the borderlands, there his luck began.
Sunburst had been lucky. As he moved through different territories, he'd learn all kinds of different things. He learned about spices, different cooking techniques, the many kitchen utensils, all of it! He started to put his knowledge to good use too.
As the years went on, Sunburst became a famous chef. Wherever he went, people knew his name. He'd be invited to cook for the rich and powerful. In his free time, he would cook at an open campfire for the public. He never settled down in one place for long.
Sunburst had been traveling the world for many years. Now, he continues to do so but as the sole chef for the Emerald Skies caravan. He decided it was about time he stepped back from the spotlight and took on a more "traditional" chef role. Not that this was traditional at all. He loved to travel and the prospect of settling down wasn't really something he wanted for himself. Besides, he determined this would be the best way to pass on his knowledge.
