Neon

Original Decendant (Gen 2)

Neons best friends are their parents, sharing a similar optimistic, excitable, and curious nature that they have. They usually spend their days in their family’s nest, weather that be playing with Beetles bugs, filling scrolls with messages for Saga to deliver, or reading books recommended by Wish from the library.

The originals hold the highest position in the clan, and although Serpent, the clan leader, makes it very clear that there isn’t a monarchy system, Neon was still given pet names from their parents like “Princess,” since they are the descendant of two originals.

However the older Neon grew the more they came to hate that nickname, they were worried they were becoming hateful of their parents so Neon kept it to themselves and tried to stay optimistic. But that wasn’t the reason at all. When on a visit to the market with their parents, after chatting up another young dragon they met there, Neon finally found a word for it, non-binary.

Since then Neon identified as non-binary and defines their sexuality as “queer as heck.” And proud of it! As are their parents who sport them in full.

Chartreuse capsule matches the accent colour of Vermilion fade so well I never would have thought their colours would match so well. Shades of orange and blue are among my favourite complementary combinations and Neon falls under that, but also they/them and “too cool for school” got my attention too. I wanted to read their bio. I love that they’re best friends with their parents. I’m pretty close with my son and it’s always nice to see unflinching rep that it can be a healthy, beneficial thing. Or at least, you forgo all the ways media tends to make fun of children who are close to their parents.

I enjoyed reading about their journey of self-discovery as well. I too come from the “didn’t always know” crowd - beyond certain gendered things not really feeling right (and a few other clues that got swallowed up in cisnormativity). I’m incredibly happy they’re parents are so supportive and still close. Also love the name Neon for this dragon :D
