Mercy The Executioner |
Theme song The Hearse Song There was once a child. A child ripped from the arms of a dying mother, a child who forgot how to weep. A child of haunting beauty, and unspeakable sin. Few, if any, have ever come close to the elegant death, the impossible magnificence, and the unspeakable slaughters of the First Executioner. The first of the Executioners, the first soldier of the Khan, a creature born from ink and divine retribution. A silken mane as black as ink cascading over a face as pale as ivory, raising an axe feared by even the Khan Herself. The Executioner, who could have matched even the greatest of Martyrs in a dance of blades, who have seen the deaths of ancients and the fall of unspoken kings, the deadliest of the Khan’s angels in all but name, for none had ever escaped their axe. With death as their unspoken vow, joy, dream and even self perished beneath the flames of the neverday, whose dreams were crushed by the word of the Khan. |
|
They stole their names from the dying gasps of those who had met the Executioner, the weeping pleas of “Mercy, mercy please!”. They learned to speak from the howling screams of the grave that had become their home, however mocking a parody of speech this may be. They grew among the dead and the dying, the beggars, the kings, the mighty generals and philosophers, the greatest of legends doomed to fall before their blade. They stole the names of the damned, for each death they were remembered, for each sin they enshrined their greatest kills in bone and ink. Each kill, each death, Mercy shoulders around the weight of thousands upon thousands upon blood-inked wings, they carry the countless names of those felled by their blade. A mind too broken to hate, a loyalty too blind to break, and a duty beyond despair, beyond even contemplation. What little humanity Mercy had, it was forced out of them. Their joy, their mind, their future, all what they could have been, even their own self, all were ground into dust by the gaze of the Khan. A beauty chained behind ink and blood, behind ice and chains. An executioner beyond compare. A killer beyond remorse, beyond even justice. A killer beyond mercy. Born to Die The exalts were bred for a sole purpose: to die. The axe forever dripping ink onto a bloodied floor, the Executioner that lead them to the pillar and severed their head from their spines. It was murder, the voices whisper. No. It was mercy, the Executioner hisses back. Sometimes the voices scream, sometimes they beg for mercy. The Executioner is a silent menace, hunting with a cold precision that places Icewarden’s Gaolers to shame. Sometimes the spirits return from beyond the grave, sometimes they escape the Catacombs of the Forgotten to rattle at the edges of their comprehension, to beg and claw and scream for an escape beyond the Forgotten, begging for their souls to be released from this purgatory. That is not their duty. The Executioner does not care. Once more, the charade starts anew, the dragon kneeling and begging and pleading for a sliver of mercy. Surely the Veilspun must acknowledge them, sure they could not remain a statue, right? Gently, the Executioner caresses his scales with one bloodied talon and leans in. Don’t worry little one. they whisper. You are with me now. |
"Mercy, mercy, how does the Executioner fare?
What unfortunate soul is to greet their fate by the Executioner's axe?
With a bloody axe and an empty soul, with all your sins laid bare
The gods are blind and deaf to you
Here never will they speak
For monsters roam and fight and burn
Among the Rifts so deep
The Forgotten Clan who did no wrong
Imprisoned for a sin they never done
The gods are blind and deaf to screams
No soul has fled, nor hid nor bled,
For they have but a single dream
Till the rivers run thick with the blood divine
And the gods are naught but bones
Join the Forgotten, in where the light can't shine
And you will never be alone"

Mercy's the first Executioner of the Forgotten to be trained from birth. They are physically uncapable of feeling remorse, and almost any other emotion, as they never had the chance to develop properly. While being born beautiful, they've been covered in so much ink and blood to never fully wash out. Their speech and vocabulary is limited; spending time with dragons who are only ever pleading for their lives will do that to you. They've been so brainwashed to be a soldier, that going longer amounts of time without orders messes with their head. They are too far gone; there is no saving them.
