Seametal tried to keep from sneezing as she whacked the branch aside. The yellow paper-like leaves tickled her snout and neck, making her sensitive scales itch. She silently grumbled a few complaints to herself, then reached up and adjusted her goggles.

Her target lay unsuspecting against the shore. He had only come onto land for a short moment of rest, but Seametal knew exactly when. She was waiting for him.

The hapless kelp tender rolled over and let out a snort.

Seametal gently took out her notebook and pencil. In quiet observation, she scribbled down a few notes, then inched closer. She had always loved animals, and now it was one of her favorite hobbies to make records of their behaviors. She also sketched out what they looked like and what they ate.

As abruptly as the familiar came, he vanished back into the water.

Seametal sighed. He would come back again to this very same spot in a few months, before eventually moving on and making a home elsewhere. The mirror smiled. Maybe someday she would have a kelp tender as her very own. She hugged her notebook. I love pets.
