"Are you still working on that?” Soberana scoffed, as she stepped into the room as San turned to scowl at her.

“Stop distracting me” he grumbled, turning around once more. Soberana shifted her gaze to the multiple vials and beakers with various different liquids — looking almost laughably like a cliche evil scientist’s workplace. To be fair, that description did fit San well, if one ignored the fact that he was a mage and not a scientist.
_
‘To-may-to, to-mah-to,” she thought, shutting the door behind her. San liked his ‘mysteriousness’ and privacy, and if it weren’t for their shared past and the fact that she was the leader, he wouldn’t have willingly opened his doors and allowed her to view his projects in the first place.

Well, perhaps less than willingly in the first place, but both of them had been here from the very beginning, and they both knew what they had to do for the clan’s sake.

“Have you made any progress at all?” she criticized, looking him over. “You’re better off figuring out more defenses instead of trying to continuously reach for eternal life.”

“If you’re going to come in here to simply criticize my life’s work, leader or not, I will throw you out.” San’s voice was flat when he spoke those words, and Soberana decided to hold it back a little. For now.

“Much as I’d like to continue speaking facts,” idly, she touched her lips, and continued, “I’m here for a progress report.”
_
“You should’ve said that sooner,” San complained, though he did turn his attention from his current project to her, after he’d put down two of his vials. “I’ve almost managed to perfect the energizing potion, and if my calculations are correct, not only can it increase the impact of magical damages, but it increases strength and agility too.”

“And how have you been developing it?”
_
“What, don’t you trust me?” San scoffed, even though they both knew the answer to that. “Fine. It’s merely a transmutation of some fluids in the body. It goes in orders, starting from sweat, then saliva, then blood. Through a couple of effects, those fluids are turned into energy for the dragon.”

“Hmm,” Soberana only hummed, fingers tapping idly across her lips. “Well, I expect a more informative and official report when you’ve finalized it. Any other projects I haven’t been made aware of?”

“Oh please,” San rolled his eyes. “With how you are, there’s no project I can hide from your gaze.”
_
His tone was bitter with that statement, which sent a thrill down Soberana’s spine.
_
“Glad you know it,” she smirked. “Now, I do have a little request for you; how about developing something more… fiery?”
_
“Another fire-related power?” San said, disgusted. “Yeesh.”
“Shut up,” Soberana said flatly. “Of course, you don’t have to take it up. But, I’ll provide everything as long as it’s within reason, and as an incentive, I’ll even provide some materials for your other projects if you complete this in due time.”

“Really?” San scoffed. "Bribery?”
_
“Yes.”
_
“…I’ll think about it,” San responded, turning back to his project, which was an implicit signal that this conversation was over, unless Soberana wanted to try and force a continuation, and make both of them frustrated. “I have a few other projects in my backlog right now. However, I may be convinced if you give me a full plan.”

“I do hope your projects are not simply personal. Your little eternal life project is only allowed because you swore you would focus on other, more important developments before focusing on that,” Soberana couldn’t help but comment, her tone taking on a sharper lilt. “Besides, I wouldn’t want to replace my top mage so suddenly, hm?”

“Yeah, yeah, what sort of dragon do you take me for?” she could practically hear him rolling his eyes, even without his face being visible. “And don’t try to threaten me; there’s practically nobody around who could ever replace me, and you know it.”

“That’s a deal, then,” Soberana hummed, ignoring his last words. “I’ll look forward to your future creations that will most definitely benefit the clan in many ways, San.”
_
“Please close the door quietly when you leave, Soberana.”
_
With a small scoff, she did just that.
