Biography
One out of three active dragons with this color combo. One out of five total on site. Training via the Sedona Build! Follow along while leveling up! |
Varisia started her life as a pearlcatcher. She ate her egg, created her pearl, and tried to act like all pearlcatchers did. She pretended she thought she was better than everyone. And for a while, her act fooled everyone.
But she couldn't keep it up.
Varisia was a kind dragon by nature. She didn't want to cast others out merely because they were other breeds, or they'd lost their pearls, or other silly things like that. She wanted to help dragons. She wanted to get her hands dirty actually working. She never enjoyed acting like a noble, surrounded by silks and useless baubles.
When she left, Varisia vowed to never again engage in such frivolity. She wanted to lead a simpler life. One where she could make a difference in the world. She learned to fight, so she could protect herself and others. She learned to cook, and clean, and build. Every useful skill she thought she might need, she at least attempted to learn. Her delicate body made things a bit more difficult, but she was determined. Despite sickness and injury, she kept working.
It was one cold, winter night that made all the difference, though.
Varisia found herself huddling for warmth in a little alcove, hidden away from the brunt of the blizzard. The little fire she'd tried to construct was barely flickering, and she couldn't get it more fuel. In a desperate attempt to keep herself from freezing, she cast a spell. A hastily created spell merely intended to give her some sort of insulation, to keep her warmer.
It seemed to work. Thick fur grew along her arms and legs. Even her tail became covered in the natural shield against the cold. Satisfied and exhausted, she let herself drift off to sleep.
When she awoke, sunlight was peeking through, melting the snow that had tried to hide her away from the world. She crawled out, a bit more clumsily than she intended. Her limbs were probably still cold, despite that she didn't really feel cold. Her longer claws and wider feet easily found traction in the snow, but she didn't pay it much mind. She stretched all out, not noticing how much smaller her wings had gotten.
The first thing Varisia noticed was that she didn't have a horn in front of her eyes. She reached up with one hand to pat at her nose, which was definitely barren of horns. She reached back next, and found little bumps where antlers would be. How much had her spell done?
Eventually, she found a clear pool that provided her a good view of her reflection. Thick, short wings were on her back, and a heavy fur coat covered her entire body. And she was big! She was much bigger than she was used to. Her ears didn't move nearly as much, either.
But after some testing, she was also stronger. Much stronger than before. Somehow, she'd managed to turn herself into an entirely different dragon species. She was no longer a pearlcatcher, but she couldn't quite recall any details about whatever she was now. ... Where was her pearl?
Varisia scoured the area she'd been, eventually finding her pearl half-buried in snow. Much to her surprise, it didn't seem nearly as important as it used to. Still, she carried it with her, anyway.
With her newfound strength, and the addition of wings meant for fighting, Varisia found it much easier to train and get stronger. She couldn't even find anything to miss about being a pearlcatcher. Well, save for perhaps her ears. She did miss being able to move her ears around as well. But it was a small complaint, dwarfed by how much she loved her new form. Actually, it felt right. Much more... her than her frail pearlcatcher body ever had.
When she eventually settled down, though, it wasn't really what she expected. Despite having sworn off frivolity, she once again found herself in an extravagant palace. Or... perhaps castle was more accurate. While it was considerably less ornate than her home back in the shifting expanse, it was still far more than she really liked. Paintings and tapestries adorned most of the walls, and delicate pottery sat on shelves and pedestals, eager to be admired. It seemed there were dozens of statues in nearly every room (or perhaps just every large hallway), and even the simple things like dishes and tables reeked of arrogance and wealth.
But this time, she couldn't bring herself to leave. Not because she'd missed such a pure show of vanity. But because she'd fallen hopelessly in love with the princess she was meant to protect. Her new role had her knighted, and given the chance to have everything she could have possibly wanted.
Varisia, however, wanted none of it. No golden chalices or shining jewelry. No satin sheets or silky clothes. She was proud to serve the castle, and more than happy to do her part protecting those who needed her. But all she really wanted was the princess. Perhaps it was a bit more elaborate than the home she would have chosen for herself. But she was happy here. It was enough for her.
