You consider reminding him you hatched in [the Viridian Labyrinth], so you don’t mind getting lost. Besides, if you hadn’t, you wouldn’t have met him. But you decide not to press it.

If you’d been able to read between the lines, you might have chosen differently.

A morose soul, effectively orphaned as a hatchling and raised by good friend Astraeus. The two traversed the Scarred Wasteland as they grew, and Mallow fostered a deep admiration for the shimmering imperial. The pedestal was abruptly shattered, however, when Astraeus fell for a literal parasite, and before long Mallow was the unwitting uncle-figure of the Astraeus’ rambunctious offspring.

They took refuge in a ramshackle inn as the hatchlings grew (and all but one left), and all the while Mallow longed for halcyon days. It became soberingly clear, however, that he and Astraeus had changed irreversibly. Unable to bear the drift, Mallow slunk away alone. He retreated into the shadows of the Tangled Wood, drawn vaguely towards the Labyrinth of his hatching but feeling more lost than he ever had.

Yet not all hope was lost. Deep in a desiccated swampland, Mallow was approached by the mute optimist Amaranta, and the two became fast friends. (Henceforth using they/them pronouns for Mallow.) Although Mallow couldn’t stay in the bog forever, they promised Amaranta they wouldn’t succumb again, and returned to the Woods to make something of their life.

This time, when the darkness beckoned, Mallow replied with newfound curiosity—and, to their surprise, found friendlier voices among the lost. Since then Mallow has appointed themself a living herald of those otherwise-forgotten souls. They keep in touch with Amaranta with the help of the courier Fern, whose old friend Apidae is one of several voices Mallow has identified personally.

The Lost Souls of Flight Reaping
Not comprehensive, but the ones I remember most distinctly.

Apocrypha & Lux
Best friends and former members of Viral Evolution, if only on the outskirts. Apocrypha was a devoted warrior; Lux, a would-be Light Flight Representative who left home too soon. When VE dissovled, the duo pledged their allegiances to the wandering empress Vulcan; it was Apocrypha’s idea.

Alas, rather than reclaimed glory, the would-be empire dissolved into darkness, taking these two with. Since then they’ve lingered in the Tangled Wood as helpful voices, urging fellow lost souls not to follow their paths.

Vulcan
A fallen empress, once the ruler of a mighty empire in the Ashfall Waste. But when it was conquered by a rivaling kingdom, Vulcan was exiled. She returned ages later to a vacant territory, every trace of former glory gone. Infuriated, Vulcan set out to recruit warriors to rebuild her throne, promising high ranks and splendor to those who joined.

Unfortunately, recruitment was a slow endeavor. The longer it dragged on, the more existing recruits questioned Vulcan’s plans and motives. Unwilling to admit defeat to the end, Vulcan instead led her would-be army deep into the Tangled Wood, where they (to the surprise of no one) met a grisly end among the thorns.

Wore the accent Blazing Plumage.

Tyson
A lonesome boy who, throughout his short life, was haunted by Vulcan personally. Little is known of his story beyond this, but he was killed by Delphi and Vulcan has been awfully quiet since. Tyson’s voice is barely more than a whisper; Mallow has been trying to coax it out more.

First egg I ever hatched. Never quite got the lore Spark (har har) so, uh, yeah.

Apidae
A reckless little lizard who really liked bumbles. Former traveling partner of Fern, but when Apidae got lost in the brambles, she forgot about his existence entirely… or so it once seemed.

For ages Apidae was restless, tying travelers’ paths in knots just to feel something. But Apidae has been soothed by the knowledge Fern is still alive and well, and (with some prompting) remembers him after all. It’s almost enough to put his soul at peace for good. (Almost.)
