Something's exact nature is currently unknown, but it seems to be fear and trauma personified. Most dragons can't see it, not unless they have special abilities or a traumatic past. When it can be seen, however, it usually appears in an abstract form that represents the viewer's fears, traumas, or darkest secrets.

Currently, Higanbana is trying to record a list of dragons who have seen Something at some point, as well as what form it took. The list currently is as follows:

• Hiraeth - appeared as a shapeless entity covered in pustules and equipped with a mouth full of crooked fangs. Very large and carried the odor of rotting flesh. Has reportedly appeared three times.
• Olympic - appeared as a collection of shadowy talons that grabbed her and paralyzed her until they let go. The hands were described as being very cold and were accompanied by a freezing wind.
• Lola - appeared in the form of a ridgeback dragon with several pairs of arms.
• Asphodel - unclear, resembled a set of dark tendrils emerging from a nondescript blob of shadow.
• Chara - appeared as a cloud of black dust particles and morphed into a bipedal figure with a single eye.
• Lusitania - has appeared at least four times, taking a different form each time. Lusitania refuses to go into more detail or attempt to explain why she's seeing Something in the first place.

Higanbana herself is capable of seeing Something despite not having any phobias or trauma. This is the result of her ability to see ghosts, and as a result she suspects that Something is closely related to normal spirits - or perhaps it actually is just a particularly powerful ghost. She sees it as either a spiral dragon with a disheveled mane of hair and many reaching hands or a tall, shadowy figure with a vertical eye. Both forms only display a single white eye amidst their distinctive blackness.
