Biography
Adalia
Healer
plant whisperer · contemplative · calm and steady · reserved
______________ |
Mirrors aren’t especially known for their relationships with plants. But Adalia is different. She feels a subtle but profound connection to all growing things, as if threads of awareness and understanding run between her and them like a mycorrhizal network weaving the forest together. She sits and feels herself unfurling with the flowers and leaves, feels the transfer of water like a ripple underneath her skin and the breath of transpiration like a sigh. The plants teach her without words until she knows their properties, both physical and magical, as intrinsically as she knows herself. With this knowledge, she’s become the pack's healer. Her treatments sometimes seem odd and idiosyncratic, but they’re effective, to the point where most of the pack prefer them to standard health potions, even though they’re often slower to work (and some of the ones that need to be ingested taste pretty bad). There’s a pleasant restfulness to the meditative way she applies them, and they bring a general sense of comfort and well-being. Adalia is also competent in basic first aid—cleaning and bandaging wounds, treating burns, breaks, and sprains, and so on—but surgery is beyond her abilities. She acknowledges that there are some things that her medicines can’t cure, or would cure too slowly to spare the patient from suffering, and she freely gives way to the expertise of others. She feels a deep certainty that the energies she works with do have the potential to heal all ills, but her understanding hasn’t reached that point yet. Thus she continues to spend much of her time in the forest, alone but not alone, seeking an ever-greater harmony. Possibly because of her close attunement to the green world, Adalia often appears distant to other dragons. Although those she interacts with sometimes feel seen in a way that they rarely experience otherwise, Adalia’s own depths seem hidden, out of reach. She’s careful and compassionate with her patients—and occasionally wry, as when she would patch up Gowan for the umpteenth time after one of his gadgets exploded—but for all that she gives, some part of her remains remote. Maybe she’s so filled with the green that there’s no space for anything—or anyone—else. (Or maybe it’s just that nobody has found the right way to connect with her yet.) | ********** |
