The words echoed in V'ijha's brain. Her mentor had spoken to her. Suddenly she was a young hatchling, nibbling on a kebab, warmed by a crackling fire. Her mentor was a Guardian (or looked like one enough) that roasted her own meal over the same fire. Her mentor had seen many seasons of conflict and hardship. Young V'ijha could sense the two were a lot alike. Not entirely from Sornieth, but looked enough like them. "I hope once you've got enough skills under your belt that you can fend for yourself, you can spread your wings into the world. Maybe test yourself against the Abiding Boneyard." This might seem like a threat to anyone else, but she knew that these words were honest. She puffed up her chest. "I'll brave the Boneyard, just like you did." Her mentor smiled. "I'm sure." The memory flickered out like a fading fire, turned back into glowing embers that drove her. V'ijha was back in the present, looking at a young Guardian (or close enough), standing before her on the deck of the Airship, flanked by Gaolers. Something was fundamentally off, her scales were too rough, a bone crackled with every movement, and walking seemed unfamiliar and disjointed. Yet, her scales glimmered crimson, much like the embers in V'ijha's memory. "You've come a long way, wildfire." She spoke, staring up at the Guardian. |
