Biography
Any machine smart enough to pass the Turing test will also be smart enough to fail it.
Cynthia is one of the earlier models in Project's Program line. She is an artificial dragon constructed from lab-grown cells with machinery filling in the gaps in her body, all powered by a compact computer chip. She dwells soundly within the uncanny valley. Her sentences resemble predictive text, her facial expressions appear constructed by pure algorithm, and even her gait is jarringly just to the side of familiar. At first glance, she appears to be a perfect example of a philosophical zombie, reacting to external stimuli but lacking a conscious experience. However, from time to time, her actions call this notion into doubt. Her words just a tad too pointed, her timing just a little too perfect. Of course, she always remains within the realm of plausible deniability. (Almost as if she were carefully doing so..? But how would a programmed entity understand what is plausibly deniable?) Those trying to determine her sentience or lack thereof are driven mad by sleepless nights and endlessly spiraling mental arguments.
Cynthia, meanwhile, finds this hilarious. She thoroughly enjoys unsettling the dragons around her with her uncanny demeanor, and sending them down rabbit holes of doubting her lack of true intelligence, then doubting their doubts, and so on.
Despite her games, Cynthia is terrified of being found out. She has seen what happens to the programs deemed too clever, too alive. She does not want to end up like them.
[As of yet, Cynthia has not met Andromeda, Tessla, or Sydney, as the three are busy helping FL/GHT.]
Cynthia tries not to cringe every time LISP complains too emphatically, or acts too smug when someone fails to crack a layer of encryption in his database. She pushes down the dread she feels when Miranye's smiles grow genuine, or when she draws out a conversation as long as possible. Don't they want to stay hidden? Are they allowed to be clever because they are helpful? Why do some of the dragons here talk to her like she is real?
Cynthia does not count as a perceptor when interacting with magical and/or anomalous effects that are affected by perception.
She believes that Bouquet is an elaborate prank perpetuated by Clan Moonwake to unknown ends.
