Claudio nodded to Ritter, who nodded back even though she’d already started drawing up the contract. “They should be back within the month, provided the current situation goes well. Fritillary, yes?” The Imperial nodded, adjusting her brilliant golden wings and she did so with a wary eye on the Harpy. Claudio had already noted the scars on her body and assumed they were put there by Harpies… in general the claw marks were too small to have been dragons. Fritillary shook off something Claudio couldn’t see and focused on him. “Yes. Frits, though, for friends and colleagues. I may have to find other work in the time until they come back.” “Oh, that won’t be necessary unless you want to.” Claudio took his eyes off Fritillary–or perhaps Frits–to watch Ritter fill in her name and date on the line. “The Chase will put you up at the Estate until they return. I may be a bit biased, you know, since I live here, but the amenities are nice.” Frits didn’t seem convinced, but nodded anyway. “The Chase puts you up, too?” “Someone has to hold down the fort here,” Claudio said, and beamed. “That’s the price of fame for you.” “Alright, well… sure, put me down for a room or whatever it is they do here.” “Excellent.” Just as he spoke, Ritter slid the small stack of papers toward Claudio. She said nothing, probably because she knew how to read a room. “Yes, yes, excellent. I’ve explained the bylaws and payment schedule. Your contract is a trial of six months, which begins when you join the main group on their return. Early departure will incur a fine. If you understand and agree, please assign your mark here.” Claudio looked up at the Imperial and smiled. Frits smirked. “I didn’t realize holding the fort involved so much legalese.” “Yes. Well.” Claudio chuckled. “To each their own.” |

Claudio has been with the Chase practically since he was old enough to spell his name–or, at least, that’s how he tells it. In truth, he was a new adult, eager to make his own way in the world and break apart from his parents and siblings in the wide world. He had an appreciation for details and the finer things, which was the exact combination that Ček happened to be looking for in hiring a permanent recruiter to live at their home base in Wind Territory, the Estate of Escape. Claudio has been living at the Estate since he joined at the tender age of twenty-one. It was the farthest he’s been from home, and it’s been far enough so far, thank you. Claudio quite enjoys his time in Wind Territory, since there’s always someone new to talk to; Wind’s cultural wanderlust has certainly served him well in this way. He takes a weekly constitutional in a wide circuit around the Steppes and has become a regular in just about every tavern and cafe along the way. Sometimes he’ll even take Zimri or Mab along with him when he’s looking for company to listen to his musings about culture and the finer points of employment law. He’s not certified in law like Ček is, but he thinks about it a lot anyway. In his free time, Claudio writes poetry and songs, though he likes to keep this to himself. The only dragons in association with the Chase who know this about him are Dandelion (who discovered it on accident at a poetry reading on the other side of the Steppes), and his companion Magina (who doubtless told her mate, Chenek). Claudio hopes to keep this information close, as he thinks it’s a bit frivolous for someone like himself. Of course, no one but Claudio knows what that means. He wants to be serious, and seen as serious, and he believes that his interest in rhyme and meter are incompatible with the vision he has for others to see. Claudio is quite proud of himself that, as an Earth dragon and a Snapper besides, he was able to get himself away from home and establish a new routine at such a young age. It’s probably not a great accomplishment to other dragons, even other dragons more or less exactly like him, but he thinks greatly of himself for it. Despite his jovial manner and enthusiastic interactions with other dragons, Claudio is actually quite shy and ever dragon he talks to exhausts him more than anyone would guess. But he’s trying very hard to be the dragon he wants to be, and he hopes that’s admirable enough to earn it. |

It’s all part of his campaign to appear important and serious. » There was something about a surgery in his youth (an explanation for his skin I guess?) to correct a genetic defect that also tied in the fact that his father is a Pearlcatcher. I should write this stuff down…
