Biography
A scarred mage hailing from the deepest parts of the Mire, Periwinkle is perpetually haunted by the sins of his past, both figuratively and literally. He still practices with his element, but ever since joining the clan with the skull of his fallen apprentice tied to his wings, a haunted look in his eyes that had seen more than anyone could ever hope to guess, his magical skills are limited to the most basic enchantments and spells. A far cry from the monumental power his best friend and sister, Wisp, had claimed to see.
Very few know exactly what happened to cause such a powerful mage to fall from grace, and the dragon himself rarely ever speaks about it. He only ever talks to Wisp and the clan leaders, and some have claimed to have seen him talking to his skull, whispering apologies and begging for forgiveness, clutching it before him like a Pearlcatcher's precious pearl. The skull speaks to him, he claims, only one day out of the year.
Things aren't all doom and gloom, however. A few years after joining, some dragons noticed that Periwinkle had begun to open up more and more, and his spells had grown stronger and stronger. The changes were minute, but they were noticeable, and once asked, Wisp began to diligently report his progress for the rest of the clan. It's become a sort of clan spectacle, keeping track of Periwinkle's moods and predicting what days he'll be the most friendly (or, the most willing to perform magical favors).
Periwinkle himself doesn't really mind the scrutiny. Wisp says he secretly likes the attention, and knowing when other dragons won't bother him doesn't hurt either. But there are still days where he refuses to leave his treehouse, keeping his door firmly locked and his drapes tied shut.
Not even Wisp can rouse him from this self-imposed isolation. She loves her brother more than anything, knows him well enough to understand that trying to drag him into the sun is a fruitless task. But even so, she can't help but wonder what Periwinkle could possibly be doing behind closed doors...
