Alstroemeria

A path was laid out for Alstroemeria at a young age, but she had other ideas.

Her parents were layabouts. Scraping by without ambitions, and seeing hatchlings as little more than extra claws to handle menial chores. Alstroemeria didn't want to be like that. She had dreams of being a warrior, or a scholar, or a noble, or someone. Her escapes changed day by day, but one dream remained the same - she had dreams of being a she. Not just in the darkness of her den, where she could be the dragon she knew herself to be, but to be acknowledged by the family around her. Seen.

Her parents tolerated her identity the same way they tolerated her dreams - with the vague humor that hatchlings will be hatchlings, but one day they'd Grow Up and see their silly flights of fancy for what they are. So one morning, Alstroemeria packed what few keepsakes she had and never looked back.

She was still young - not quite at the cusp of adulthood, but old enough that no dragon batted an eye to see a Spiral travelling alone. She didn't know much about the wider world, but she did know menial tasks, and that's what she began with. It wasn't much of a living, but for every clan she hunted for, surveyed, and cleaned, she sought out their elders and learned from their most exalted members. She took brief apprenticeships, listened keenly to long and rambling histories and plucked nuggets of knowledge, and saved what few coins she could.

(it was in one of those clans that she got her multigaze? tutoring with an arcane mage, an old but spritely nocturne with a bent for the eclectic. with their aid, set up a ritual of power meant to find her inner self - tapped into magic that finally blessed her for all her work? what do the eyes symbolize for her? finally felt like she had something to show for her life, something to prove herself - and prove herself she did.
