HISTORY
Born in the STARWOOD STRAND Bred with a SKYDANCER in the WINDSWEPT PLATEAU |
Zephyr, like clan leader Adara, has lived in the Starwood Strand his whole life. However, unlike Adara, he has left it--often. As a hatchling, he loved bothering the local courier dragons about every corner of Sornieth, and he applied that wanderlust to the infinite Starwood Strand itself. See, most people would say the forest is endless. They'd tell you it repeats, it loops back on itself, it invents new areas whenever it feels like it. Zephyr would disagree. He wanted to discover every corner of it. After all, why travel the world when you live inside a wooded infinity? Surely, this place had an end, had rules, had SOMETHING. So, he set out on his journey to discover the Starwood Strand's secrets. He stumbled into Adara quickly. The two recognized in each other a desire to understand the Starwood Strand intimately, and realized they'd work much better as a team. Zephyr could travel quickly and freely, gathering and spreading news for Adara. She, in turn, could help him learn the ins and outs of the forest that he'd never learn alone. Thus began a legendary partnership. He moved out of his parents' lair and into the Brilliant Sky clan, now three whole dragons strong (him, Adara, and Moth). Days turned to weeks turned to years (that looped back in on themselves and sometimes disappeared, as time does in the Starfall Isles). About a year after moving into the clan, Zephyr was on a diplomatic mission over Starwind Bay, when he met a young Skydancer named Amalthea who caught his heart. Their relationship was brief but passionate, and before long, Zephyr was looking over two eggs, that comprised half of his and Amalthea's clutch of four. He delved into fatherhood with the same enthusiasm as he approached everything else in his life. To this day (and probably until the end of time), his most precious moment is watching his two hatchlings peek their heads out of their eggs for the first time. Green-eyed like their mother, they stared up at Zephyr with the innocence of a newborn, the type that can't help but snag your heart. They followed him around everywhere. Snowflake was a bit of a wayward soul. He was drawn to the woods, and followed his father eagerly on his travels through the Strand, noting each leaf and plant as he went. The only Wildclaw out of his four siblings, he always felt drawn to the wild nature of the Strand, and when he announced his intention to exalt himself to the Gladekeeper, Zephyr knew that his son would be in the best hands. Nephele, on the other hand? Well, she stayed. To this day, she's a member of the clan. Zephyr has come a long way from the stubborn young Wildclaw he used to be. But the man he's grown into, and the family he's gained along the way have made the whole journey worth it. |

PERSONALITY
Zephyr was born in the Starwood Strand, which somehow makes perfect sense and no sense at the same time. It makes perfect sense because he knows the area better than the back of his hand, even the bits that loop in on themselves forever, or the bits that change places when certain stars are out. It makes perfect sense because everytime he's in the forest, his footfalls are sure enough that he doesn't even need to look at the ground in order to step over each fallen rock or log. He's internalized it all, to the last detail. It makes no sense because Zephyr is one of the most decisive, down-to-earth, and practical dragons that you'll ever meet. He isn't a dreamer or an academic or a mage or even an amateur astronomer. He's too straightfoward for the twisty magic of the Strand. He doesn't have time for that nonsense. Perhaps that's why he fits in so well here. When the forest wants to lead him astray, he simply says no. When other dragons would get lost, Zephyr simply doesn't. He has places to be, and the Starwood Strand should understand that if it doesn't want to get torn apart by his state-of-the-art exploration boots, it should stop playing games with him and give him a straight path to his destination. Those nonslip treads can do real damage on endangered plant species. It's this intuitive knowledge, this decisiveness, and this snap judgment that makes him so fit to lead a clan. Sure, he often makes decisions without thinking. He's impulsive. He's impatient. He's desperate for attention. But, that's what Adara's for, honestly. As the public face of the clan outside the Starwood Strand, Zephyr is one of the most confident and competent dragons you'll ever meet. |

Zephyr's duties are multifaceted, but mostly involve communication and maintaining the clan's affairs outside of its walls. First of all, he is the clan diplomat, aided by his trusty familiar, Twister. In this role, Zephyr communicates with other clans both inside and outside of the Starwood Strand, for reasons that range from gift-giving, to mating, to economic transactions. If you receive a message from the Brilliant Sky clan, chances are it was written (or at least proofread) by Zephyr, and delivered by his familiar. Either that, or Zephyr has come to deliver the message in person and discuss things more deeply. An extreme extrovert, Zephyr often uses these diplomatic missions as excuses just to make personal friends (and sometimes more than friends) all over the globe. Second, he is the main dragon responsible for all the dragons that pass through the clan temporarily, while on their way to the Arcanist. The Brilliant Sky clan often serves as a training ground for dragons who wish to be exalted, and Zephyr is the one who coordinates their training, their temporary food and lodgings, and safe passage to their final destination, whichever god that may be. Third, he deliberates with Adara on all major clan decisions. Nothing moves forward without a "yes" from both of them (and often from other dragons as well, depending on whose skills and knowledge are needed in the moment). He tends to examine her arguments ruthlessly, poking holes wherever he can find them, to make sure that any plans are as solid as possible. |
