Elena gave him the idea. He'd never give her any credit, of course - he was too proud - and at any rate, it was he who thought of it. Elena gave him the inspiration.

As much as he fancied himself an engineer, he had to admit his failure at the one key engineering feat that sustained the clan: the redirection and maintenance of the waterfall at the clan's doorstep.

Elena had succeeded not by dint of ingenuity or resourcefulness, but strong water magic. Kaivu was never satisfied with the solution - there had to be something simpler, more elegant - but he had to admit it worked, and well.

What else could elemental magic do? What other problems, big and small, could it resolve? And how could it profit the clan?

Originally from just over the border in Light territory and living there for quite some time, Pitys was long interested in the flora of the Shifting Expanse. The clan's location in the oasis, still close to the border with Light, provides a convenient base for Pitys as she embarks on research trips into the desert as well as gathering trips into Light for the medicinal plants that flourish in the region. Pitys always travels alone; she has trained as a warrior to assuage others' fears of her crossing dangerous, Beastclan-controlled territories.

Pitys' potions serve as preventative medicines or treat common illnesses and diseases that occasionally affect the clan. Her domain does not overlap much with the clan's healer, Selene, who deals mainly with injuries, surgery, and is trained for battlefield healing. However, there remains a certain rivalry between the two, fueled mainly by Selene's disdain for Pitys' plant-based methods, which she views as unrefined. Pitys is untroubled by Selene's sentiments, though this antipathy has made her even more of a loner in the clan than her independent disposition would portend.
