Biography
Mirtila the Honeythief
She likes sweets. A LOT. Hide your honey! (And your bees, she considers them tasty as well.) Barricade your blueberry pies inside of your homes! The once-"sticky little hatchling" has grown into a master seeker of sugary treats, and those are her absolute favorites. Of course, a dragon cannot fly evasive sweets-stealing maneuvers while covered in stickiness, so she spends a great deal of time meticulously (and maybe a bit vainly) cleaning herself of the evidence. (New accomplice - Lucky)
Mirtila hatched as a tiny Fae, but sought transformation into a Nocturne after one too many beestings to the face - a search which brought her to Tangleroost, and to Maemd the Gaoler sorceress. Nocturne-form, suited for the fierce and numerous briar-thorns of their domain of origin, seemed like a logical choice for bee-proofing herself; it has, however, been an adjustment for her to be so much larger than before. (Have you ever seen a very large cat think it is cleverly concealed behind something quite a lot smaller than it is? Right. Like that.) So, even though she leaves her shinies behind for her roguery, she is not quite so stealthy as she used to be(e).....
Communication has also been something of an adjustment, to put it mildly. Fae deadpan is sometimes useful when in a bind, but she has no head-fans to emote hurt innocence with anymore either! What is a former Fae to do?!....Mirtila has tried to use her wings for this purpose, though this still leaves her at a loss if talking while flying.
(2022 update) - Kintsugi the artificer has come up with another idea, a set of magi-artificed head-fins controlled by a link to the wearer's mind, which can somewhat stand in for a Fae's crest in conversation. A Fae hatchling's crest, perhaps, but it does seem to be helping! (One downside is that, until she has them better under conscious control, they have rather spoilt her poker face at dice, cards, and fibbing her way out of trouble.) Vesely is thrilled for her (and is bursting to beg to try them on, but resisting the urge).
If caught without her artificial head-fins, Mirtila may fall back on grabbing fans or feathers to use in place of a Fae's expressive crest. Her clanmates are used to it, but strange dragons might not be quite prepared for the sight; lacking those, whatever is about the right size and shape and handy to hold up beside her head to make the best of it, will do. (Leaves, books, saucers, small flat-ish familiars....)
Not that either fins or improvisation helps in communication with all dragons; with Coatl in particular she still has a good many of the typical Fae difficulties.
Re-equip later - (Accent depicts the sticky consequences of raiding the hives of giant bees, she is not always such a mess.)
(Originally a Fae I hatched who looked like she had raided a beehive and gotten melted beeswax and honey all over her. The look that started it all) -
