B I O G R A P H Y
Web was once a proud member of her shadow clan. She was kind, loyal, and could be depended upon by those in need. She trained to be a healer and once her talent for it was apparent, she was trained under the wing of the Head Healer of the clan. But things changed when the sickness came. Her friends, her family, became sick, and dragons fell around her. She worked with healers to find a cure but none could be found. Desperate for anything that could help, Web worked day and night, searching everywhere and trying everything she found. Yet nothing made a difference. And then she found the book.
She had gone underground in search of rare herbs and found an ancient, leather-bound book floating just under the surface of a subterranean lake. The lake was one she knew well, it fed the stream her clan used for water, but she had never seen the book here before. When she cracked it open, she found that it was full of cures, remedies, and spells for every illness she could imagine. Praising her luck, Web took the tome back with her.

Web worked tirelessly; she studied the book cover to cover and tried out every instruction in it. The book became her obsession, but one she was willing to justify if it helped heal her clan. Her focus only grew and when she fell asleep at her workbench late at night, she would dream that it spoke to her. Then one day it actually did. And amazed, she listened. The book told her things, things about medicine and healing that no one knew. Though it was made of paper, it had a silver tongue and told Web it would help her heal her clan. It convinced her to bring it plants, materials, and magical items, claiming it needed them and always wanting more. It said it was for the cure. Slowly the book began to control Web and soon she was carrying it with her wherever she went. Then came the day when the book had everything it needed. It compelled Web to complete a spell with the ingredients, stating that it would wipe out the illness. But when she was done, the book erupted in streams of green light. A demonic spectre flew from the time and into Web herself, possessing her, taking over her mind and body completely. Now, with their minds merged, Web could see the truth. The spirit was an evil one, sealed away within the pages of the book eons ago. The pages had been its prison but it had learned to manipulate them, to show the reader whatever it wanted to in the hopes that it would one day be freed. Web saw in the horror of her mind how the book had been buried as a way to get rid of it, how it had found its way into the underground lake, and how it's vileness had leaked into the water of the clan and spread a terrible sickness. But there was nothing Web could do, the spectre was in control now. It marked her violet hide with seething green streams of its vileness. |

For months Web fought against the spectre until she was able to wrest control of her body back from it. However, the spectre still lived in her mind, waiting for its chance to take over once more. Web saw and wept at the destruction the spectre had wreaked using her and knew that she could no longer stay in her home. She repaired what damage she could, using the spectre's arcane knowledge to leave instructions for a cure for the illness, and then left forever. Now Web wanders, learning to live a half-life as the spectre periodically overtakes her over completely. Each time it possesses her longer and it becomes harder to take back control. She never stays in one place for long for fear of the damage she can cause. Though she tries to take precautions against herself and to fix whatever she can, sometimes it is not enough. The solitude has taken a toll on the once-friendly Web, her life no longer fit for companionship. When she is in control, the spectre still whispers to her in her mind and sometimes Web whispers back. For now, the spectre is all she has and she has learned to listen to it. She strikes deals to minimize the damage it could cause and when there's no one else to listen, the spectre is always there. |
