DESCRIPTION
A stray egg. Did it tumble from the cliffs? From the clutch of a dragon flying above? Was it gently placed at her doorstep? Opal was not sure. But when she did find the egg nestled in her favorite flowering bush in front of her abode, maternal instinct kicked in and she brought it to the nest of her own eggs, too as a harpy, were much smaller than this dragon egg that now sat among them. For days she listened to the rustling inside the egg, much more active than her own; little coos and trills, growing talons tip-tapping the sides. On the fifth day of sitting on her new addition to the clutch, she felt a tiny poke from underneath - a little tip of the dragon's talon had started to emerge! She placed it in front of her and watched in amazement as a bright orange ball of feathers and fluff emerged from the egg. They looked up at her, face half hidden by their shell, curious bright eyes peering up at her.

"Hello, little one," she greeted the coy little dragon.

Wobbling legs stretched from underneath the mass of feathers, hesitantly taking their first steps towards Opal.

And once they were in her arns, cleaned up and warmed, they never wanted to leave.

Coy, as they would become named, was raised with Opal's other chicks and a welcome addition to their village at large. Always causing mischief as a hatchling, they eventually found some peace and purpose among the Owl Keepers of their village.
