Unlike most of the pack, Niall has a career, thank you very much. He works as a gemologist for a company that trades in gemstones from Dragonhome. His job involves a lot of traveling, and even when he's not abroad, he's often at the company's headquarters. He does come back to visit fairly often, however, although mainly just to see his family. He's very close with his parents and his nest-sister, Nadia, and indifferent to just about everyone else.

The journey to the Spire is long and inconvenient, and he might not make it as frequently as he does, but he's in a triad with Nadia and her mate, Boris, and although it's purely pro forma, he needs to maintain contact or risk it being dissolved. (He thinks Lakeisha's rule is garbage, but he's not going to give her even the least excuse to mess with Nadia and Boris's relationship.) He was grumbly and resentful of Boris for a while, but he's come to acknowledge that Boris really is a good guy who thinks Nadia hung the moon and the Arcanist's stars. (Plus he's objectively hot. Niall's sister has good taste.)

Something he picked up from his mother is a love of theater; he enjoys catching a performance whenever he can, and his occasional flings tend to be with actors. (He has a weakness for leading males with darkly brooding good looks.) He hopes to be able to settle down someday with someone who's just for him, but at the moment that day seems very far off. Instead he focuses on his job, and his employers find his meticulous work ethic a great asset.
