Biography
A R R A K I S
The cosmos is also within us. We're made of star-stuff. We are a way for the cosmos to know itself.

That night, the crisp briny air rolling in from the sea carried promises of spring. Innumerable stars kept vigil in the velvet darkness of a cloudless, moonless sky, and Arrakis could feel their inscrutable regard like an itch building to an unbearable heat in her blood. Though she lay draped across the sun-warmed flagstones lining the reflecting pool, wings mantled against the night's lingering chill, her tail swished out a perfect rhythm on the ground beside her.
Rest would elude her that night.
A gentle breeze stirred the surface of the reflecting pool, and the golden flecks of light dancing merrily across its ripples came not from the stars above but from the shining halo illuminating her brow. So fixated was the young imperial upon the glittering display, and upon the murky thoughts that even her brilliant light could not reach, that she didn't hear the jingle of jewelry or the click of hard talons against stone until the intruder was already upon her.
"May I join you?"
Arrakis started. Craning her neck to meet the stately Wildclaw approaching her, the young dragon did her best to swallow the knot of surprise lodged in her throat - but a soul kept no secrets in Muhorta's presence. "Forgive me, your majesty. My thoughts got away from me." The tightening coil of her tail betrayed a child's embarrassment.
"A java sparrow needs no forgiveness for singing, my dear, but one might be interested in learning about the song." The blood queen had a way of asking-without-asking things that both mystified and compelled Arrakis - but then, she had been playing the game for a very long time.
The words tumbled out in a rush before she could guard herself, welling up like springtime snowmelt into a river. "Why am I the clan's link to the Lightweaver? Why not Yasiin, who's been here longer than anyone? Or Zorya? Or you? You are by far the wisest of us all - I'm a child." Arrakis leapt to her feet, tail lashing anxiously. "Any one of you would be more worthy of this responsibility than I. I'm no-one. How could I possibly guide our clan in the Lightweaver's grace?"

THE SIX FACTIONS
under arrakis' guiding light | ////// |
━━━━━◇━━━━━
All permanent members of Solira will eventually find themselves allied with one of the six presiding factions. Most groups serve important roles in the everyday survival of the clan and Light Flight, though the clan's recent prosperity has brought with it the rise of a secretive, ambitious syndicate of rogues and thieves.
Dragons take great pride in their adherence to their chosen faction. Defections are rare, with even elderly members of the Wardens preferring to spend their retirement mentoring the next generation of Wardens rather than settling into civilian life, and those who do choose to leave one faction for another are often forced to overcome the skepticism and distrust of their new peers. A notable exception to this is the Union, a consortium of tradesfolk who readily accept all clan members into their ranks regardless of their past.
