The character from《天官赐福》Heaven Official's Blessing General Pei Junior- so called because he is a distant descendant of Marital God Pei Ming - is a seemingly diligent and proud young man working as a middle-ranking heavenly official under his ancestor Pei Ming. However, there is a dark history behind his rise to godhood that he is eager to cover up. Some two hundred years before the events of Heaven Officials Blessing, he was born to Yong'an parents near the border with Banyue during a time of tensions between the two countries. He and an orphaned Banyue girl, Ban Yue, became friends, and the two often found themselves under the guidance of a young Yong'an general named General Hua, whom the two looked up to. In actuality, General Hua was Xie Lian during his second banishment from the Heaven. Unfortunately, General Hua was "killed" trying to protect Ban Yue during a border skirmish, and Ban Yue and Pei Xiu were deeply affected by his supposed death, and took to heart his words about saving the common people. Eventually Pei Xiu joined the Yong'an army, while Ban Yue - who was actually working with Pei Xiu - learned black magic and the ability to control the scorpion-snake hybrids around the Kingdom of Banyue, leading to her appointment as Banyue Guoshi - High Priest of Banyue. Believing themselves to be protecting the common people by supposedly preventing further bloodshed, they colluded to have Ban Yue open her city-state's gates to let the Yong'an soliders under the command of Pei Xiu massacare the city. While Pei Xiu was successful, Ban Yue was captured by Banyue soliders and executed for her betrayal. As a result of their traumatic deaths, Ban Yue and the soliders have been trapped as ghosts in the city-state's ruins. Eventually rising to godhood as a result of his martial exploits and relation to General Pei, Pei Xiu is unable to directly deal with the ghosts for fear of drawing attention to his past actions, and instead lures travelers to the city ruins to feed the resentful ghosts of Banyue. When this comes to light as a result of Xie Lian's investigation into the city ruins, he is banished from the Heavenly Realm. Eager to protect Ban Yue from General Pei who wishes to blame her for Pei Xui's actions to have his descendant reinstated, the two end up under the protection of Yushi Huang.
