For Amhara, being kind was a choice.
He was never naive or soft, rather the opposite - he was fully aware about flaws of the world. His mother was an advisor, stern and proud one, caught in intricate plans and uncovering lies even off the clock. She knew exactly what to teach her children - to be courageous and fair, and at the same time, careful and incredulous. Listening to her, little Pearlcatcher thought of how sophisticated it sounded. How tricky and senseless such life would feel? And so, he decided to ignore advices on purpose.
His kindness is headstrong and from time to time, even aggressive - he would smile at anyone and help with everything, asked or not, sometimes forcing his positivity onto others. He would try desperately to do everything he can to bright up days of those he never knew, as if anxious they are not getting enough solicitude. Amhara's close friends often warn him that he might be fooled and hurt by acting so sincere, that others might hide unkind intentions while smiling back at him. He knows it all. He nods. He never cares.
