Tezcatlipoca
Shaman/Astronomer

Adrift as the snow
Mirrored hope of star-stained skies
Journeying for home
-By Punkwitch

Origins - The coldest of lands, where every corner is coated with a soft white coat of snow, where the water is frozen over with thick ice, and the trees themselves hold heavy loads of snow on top their branches, it was known as the Southern Icefield, once a large land, taking over lower hemisphere, but as years rolled on, it shrunk as the sides melting, the snow and ice turned to water, falling to the heat which became hotter every new year. It was a harsh land, the weather could change with a flick of a finger, but never did that deter those who inhabited the land, who had developed the fur to resist against the cold, or other had developed other tactics to life in the snow. Throughout its snowy reigns, lived a pair of imperials, the mother sat on a batch of three eggs, keeping them close to her chest to provide the warmth that they needed. It was a peaceful day, the sun was shining upon the snow below, making it look lighter than usual, when the mother of the eggs was awakened by some movement she felt, looking down to see the three eggs starting to crack, as the hatchlings fought the sides of their small, rounded voids, soon each were out of their eggs, huddling close to their mother. Delicately, she took care of them with pristine love, while the father looked upon them with honour, knowing the three beautiful beings he was looking at was the result of his love for his partner. Exhaustion overcame the hatchlings, as the effort of breaking themselves free were a difficult task, and soon they fell into a deep slumber, bathing in the loving gazes of their parents above. They named the three hatchlings Tezcatlipoca, SmokyQuartz, and Graythyr. The family was happy, all huddled together, in the small little ice cave which they inhabited, protecting them from the cold outside.

It didn’t take long for the hatchlings to wander out their nest, exploring the surroundings of their home and playing together, clumsily chasing each other around, always making a huge racket. SmokyQuartz and Graythyr were much stronger than Tezcatlipoca, as he was quite feeble, smaller than his siblings but still tried to play, and they always made sure to be careful, neither to hurt him and always include him in their games. The parents would always swap roles, one would hunt whilst the other looked over their young, making sure they never played to rough or wandered too far. Many days they would tell them stories, of the deities and the lands around, of the different species, and many more, but most days Tezcatlipoca found interest in the ones about the stars, some nights he would wander to the entrance, watch the stars above and when his father caught him, instead of reprimanding him for being awake so late, he would take the time to sit beside him, wrap his tail around him to keep him warm, before telling him of all the constellations, their stories, the beauty they beheld and their names, all the while he would listen with admiration, amazing, as the stars gleamed in the night sky, reflecting into his eyes like a mirror. Those were his favourite times, so it was no surprise where the day his father came back from a long trip with gifts for them each, he was given a large book which explained everything, written by some of the highest astrologers in the world of Flight Rising, he read it with passion. But never did they know the reason of his long trip, he was seeking a new home as a growing anxiety flourished in between the pair, because their home, their cave, was soon going to break down, collapse from the heavy snow which weighed on it, and the melting of its foundation, they had to move soon, yet, they had no where to go, and they didn’t know when it would break.

The family was happy, it was a normal evening, nothing was seemed to be out of the ordinary, as they all ate their meal in piece, but suddenly the parents darted in different directions, as snow fell down from the roof. They watched as it slowly cracked, knowing it was about to collapse, so without a choice, they urged the three outside, as they heard the crashing down of the snow and stone, and watching as their home turned to rumble, completely gone. Before they left Tezcatlipoca had grabbed his precious book, he held it close to him, as tears peaked in his eyes, confused as to what going was on. Before he knew, they started to move, his father explaining he knew a place they could stay in the meantime while they searched for a new place. As they walked on, the weather took a change for the worst, as the sky darkened from the heavy cloud, snow started to fall down heftily, it got hard to see, as Tezcatlipoca struggled to catch up, they were much quicker than him, so he whipped was lacking behind. He tried to cry out, but his voice was lost in the snow as it around him from the harsh winds, he watched their shadows walk further away, he tried to catch up but the moment he slipped, he could not see them anymore. He cried, and yelled, they were no where to be seen, but he continued until his voice was hoarse, and before he knew it, he was curled up against a tree, shaking as he was cold without the warmth from his mother nor the protection from the cave, he used to call home. Slowly he felt the snow pile upon him and around him, he looked up into the sky as the storm calmed, no stars were to be seen, only violent white flecks of snow. Quietly he stopped moving, stopped making any noise, he just closed his eyes and hug onto the bag where his book resided; not knowing where he would go next.

Tezcatlipoca woke up hours later, he looked up to the sky to see the storm had gone, only stars danced above him, it comforted him in a sort of way, as if they were telling him he was safe. He was surprised when he felt no cold, but a warm presence to his side at first, he imaged it was his mother, and the whole experience was just a nightmare, but when he looked up, he was meet with a face of a kind lion, it had wings covering him and he felt safe under its warmth. He soon stood up, looking at the world around him, trying to search for his family yet could not see them, and only felt the lion comfort him, he didn’t know what he was or who he was, but all he knew, is that he could trust him, as he had kept him warm during the duration of the storm. He did not know where to go, only stared up into the stars, before remembering something his father had told him, “Whenever you feel lost, follow the brightest star, as it’ll guide you home.” Those words brought him hope, as he looked up into the night sky, admiring the brightest star, before starting to walk in its direction, hopefully to home, where his family would be. Without a question, the lion followed him, he stayed by his side protecting, feeding, comforting, and looking after him when needed, as he couldn’t leave such a feeble creature as the dragon to fend for itself. Since that day on, his adventure started, one to find, his home.

Years passed, he never stopped following the north star, he had grown up during his adventures, he was now triple the size of the lion who had stuck by his side since that day, he had taught himself to not only hunt, but fight and defend himself. He became quiet, he didn’t have anyone to talk to, so most days they would walk in silence, but he always took care of his familiar. At night he would admire the stars, writing about them in his book, which had empty pages on it, often he would read it, but he wrote his own, about the constellations and the stars, sometimes even of his thoughts, or the scenery around him. He had concluded he would never see his family again, simply accepting the truth, and only hoping that they were safe and okay. He had gotten used to the cold; he became good at getting use to any kind of temperature. He flown from the Southern Icefields, walked throughout the WindSwept Plateau, flew over the Sea of a Thousand Currents, trudged through the murky Tangle woods, before finally arriving at the place he found to be most beautiful, the Viridian Labyrinth. It was the opposite of the Southern Icefield, it was warm, it flourished with life, the shrubbery was a luscious shade of green and it was a very peaceful land. The water was a beautiful shade of blue, and the flowers bloomed all over the Everbloom Gardens, but his adventures didn’t stop, as he continued forth, following the brightest of stars. Came the day he found himself in the Gladeveins, he had found himself stumped, as the star shone above him, he had reached the end of his adventures, facing a clan of active dragons.

Tezcatlipoca looked upon the clan, it was Oriana which first noticed him. With light steps, she walked towards him, before addressing him kindly, as she had seen his mangled, tired self, looking as if he had been travelling for longer which she would ever know. It had been long since he had spoken, his voice was soft yet firm when he spoke, he introduced himself and told her of his situation, he was looking for home, whenever it would be. The Skydancer thought over it for a second, before remembering she herself had been guided to the clan, by the likes of the Gladekeeper. She turned to the clan, speaking to them in hush tones, before returning to him, and with open arms, welcomed him to his home, the Holocene Clan. He was speechless, it was the first time he cracked a smile, he thanked them profusely, he had finally found where he had been looking for all those years. He was guided around the territory, introducing him to each member, all the while being taught of their ways, and soon being guided into his new home. It was an open room, it had been cleaned, it was once a home to a sweet elderly fae, who had passed away peacefully recently. He was left alone, and settled in quickly, in had been so long since he felt the comfort of a nest, he fell asleep, soundly.
Since that day, Tezcatlipoca had integrated himself into the quite well. He remained quiet most days, but many would love to talk to him, hear him speak of the tales of his adventures, the stories of the stars and constellations above. He became an astronomer, his love for stars never died down, he was passionate about them, and they were his comfort. His familiar still lived with him, he always stuck close, and he would always appreciate him staying this whole time, instead of running off. When he looked into the sky, he always saw one star shine brighter than the others, he always thought of that one as his family, as it always danced above him.

Tezcatlipoca had finally found his home, among the Holocene Clan.
