Biography
She had always been cursed. It was her name, after all. Cast out by her mother, who, despite being blind, could already see the heartache and despair that her child would bring. It wasn't until later in life, after her first few nests and mates didn't end well, that she actually learned how to read it.
"Loneliness shall follow you and be a curse upon your bloodline. This is now your curse to bear."
That was the prophecy upon her hide; her burden since birth. When she finally understood, she wept. Wept for her past, wept for her first children, born as parasites, and wept with despair for her future. It was only through the kindness of another, her third mate, that she found her purpose.
He had a massive family, practically a city of relations that all acted as an ever-expanding support network to look out for and care for each other. He helped her, if only a bit, to relieve the ache of her curse. If his family could help her, then what could other families do as well? For her, for her children, and their children. With enough other families, creating a massive web of support, perhaps the curse could be staved off once and for all?
And so she set out, meeting other large, well-known lineages, to help her children find connections. To help her bloodline spread into other families. With each new family, she felt a bit lighter. With each generation, her children and descendants had more dragons around them who cared, and would be their for them despite their curse.
It seemed to be working, but only time would tell if the curse would truly be able to be defeated...
Never Alone by Jim Brickman
May your tears come from laughing
You find friends worth having
As every year passes
They mean more than gold
May you win and stay humble
Smile more than grumble
And know when you stumble
You're never alone
