Orphaned at an early age, Kiye was used to being on his own. In fact, his independence was a source of great pride for the Imperial. For the most part, he enjoyed living alone as well. He could travel where he wanted whenever he wanted, with no one to tie him down or make him feel guilty for leaving them behind. He never imagined sacrificing his freedom to travel the world with someone else. That is, until he met Octavius.
Kiye had spent the night camped next to a deep pool in one of the Scarred Wasteland’s most dangerous rivers. The currents in the river were too strong for even a large dragon like himself to swim against, and anyone unfortunate enough to accidentally fall in never made it back out alive. That’s why Kiye was shocked when he woke to the sounds of splashing and saw a large Guardian male peacefully swimming in the river of death. The Imperial stared dumbfounded until Octavius finally noticed him and swam over to the riverbank, offering a warm greeting. Finally snapping out of his initial shock, Kiye introduced himself and the two began talking. Kiye learned about Octavius’ unique ability to breathe underwater. The Guardian joked that he was part sea monster and Kiye found himself laughing, even while thinking there might be some truth to it. The two chatted away like old friends throughout the morning and by the afternoon, Kiye found himself suggesting that they travel together. For someone who always traveled alone, this was surprising, even to himself, but for some inexplicable reason, Kiye had the feeling that their meeting was fate. He had never met someone quite like Octavius and he doubted he ever would again... |
