Legends has it during an intense thunderstorm, a single strike of lightning exploded a paired Ancient's nest, and Rhys came into existence.

He generates so much energy that he bears the ability to cause storms with the heavy stir of his wings. Those who roam the expansive desert they will often glimpse him during the storms. If he ever lands, fulgurite forms with each step he takes across the shifting sands. Many speculate he must stay in constant motion to generate electricity, so he could remain alive. It is said that thunder is the only language he speaks. No one knows if he is cursing the gods for his mere existence or he simply wishes to share his songs of storm.

He also has a much gentler sister born with a unique trait named Whisper who lives on the outskirts of Windvieled Village.
