Familiar-keeper. Or, "vermin-wrangler" according to some, depending upon what mischief his many charges have enacted on which of the other dragons in the lair on a given day.

With Vistarie and her many-eyed Spiral friend to help with the familiars, and as one of the few Water dragons in the clan, Malama has been coaxed to bring his other skills to bear when members of his adopted clan must venture into into the Kelp Beds. What a surprise it was to so many that this gentle giant is a warrior somewhere beneath all of that shining fur; it is one thing to hear stories of how he and their eccentric Nocturne clan leaders met, and quite another to have him be the only thing standing between them and terrible dangers.

To Malama, this is a duty he does not shy away from, but not a pleasure. He would much prefer that his imposing size kept potential attackers at a distance, or try to reason with them - but he is not always given that choice.

Loosely paired and close friends with Fiodoira, half his weight and a hundred times as fierce.

Williwaw taught him to swim, and how to fight underwater, and most of all to love the sea; Maemd's gift of fins came later.

Lau-Okoa would like for the more rambunctious creatures to be kept clear of her gardens, but she is very patient and welcomes Malama anyway, his swarm of attendant creatures and all. The frost dryads and things are (sometimes) helpful in keeping her cool on hot days, even if they can be rather rough on delicate plants. But the animated plants are her favorites, of course, if at some risk of being distractedly nibbled upon around lunchtime. (Lauokoa helps to keep them in fantastic shape otherwise, so, what are a few munch marks among fronds?)

Often, the Tundra gardener and the Gaoler "zookeeper" end up chatting endlessly at each other, she about plants and he about his more animated charges, often at the same time and with some question as to whether either is really listening, neither appearing to mind. Eventually she gets hungry and wanders off or takes a nap with a Strangler for a pillow, or he rounds up his menagerie and gets back to work. Somehow, this all works out.
