Biography
A E S C H Y L U S
"Would you like to hear a story?"
-A traveling writer. She tells stories for coin and shelter, though she also trades stories for stories.
-Most of her stories are lifted from true experiences. Hers, or those from people she meets during her travels.
-Has a very specific interest in tragedies. She finds tragedies beautiful, and the "perfect representation" of what it is to be human.
-While she looks young (20s), her true age is much older.
-Used to cry pearls. Now though, her tears burn like acid on her skin.
-Has extremely long hair with a strange sheen to it. It resembles a tail, somehow; and it doesn't seem like she ever cuts it.
-Deathly afraid of the sea, and will never be seen near beaches or fishing towns. She seems fine with both rain and ponds, however.
-Can sing very well, but doesn't do it much.
-She does like her happy endings, but tragedy just strikes a certain chord with her. It just makes it seem that much...human and real.
-True form is a mermaid. A very long time ago, she begged an old sea witch for legs. She had fallen in love with a human, and was willing to give up anything for it.
-Unfortunately, humans have much shorter lifespans than mermaids. After the death of her lover, the same sea witch came to Aeschylus in a dream to offer her a choice. She could either return to the sea, and in the process lose her human memories (because mermaids were never made for sorrow. Silly things that they were; grief would break them and their bodies would return to the seafoam that they were made of); or she could remain on land and watch everyone she loves die. She chose the latter option, and has never regret the decision.
-Can't touch salt water, because it burns her skin. If she's ever submerged in it, she'll return to her original form.
-To elaborate on mermaids, crying is how they get rid of sorrow. Literally. Their pearls are made up of their memories.
-Due to mermaids being biologically unable to feel grief and sorrow, Aeschylus has become someone almost addicted to them. She's associated it with "being human", and enjoys the fact that she's human enough to be able to feel them. Even if it hurts.
-On the flip side, sirens are the opposite of mermaids in that they are unable to feel anything but grief and sorrow. Though their origins are a bit of a mystery, it's been confirmed that it has nothing to do with mermaids. They're a different species entirely, despite any similarities. Sirens like to drag others down with them, and make them feel the grief and sorrow they always do before drowning and eating their poor victim.
