Biography
In the Tidelord's long absence, many oracles began to turn their divination skills upon non-traditional sources, desperately seeking knowledge of his whereabouts. Among them were dragons who focused their magics so strongly upon the stars - their movements in the sky, their reflections upon the water, the lazy flight of fireflies around their noses, images of constellations accidentally burned into their morning toast - that the effects seeped into their physical bodies, creating starry patterns upon their hides. This, too, became a new and exciting source for prophecy - and when it was discovered that the stars were passed down to one's children, birth rates skyrocketed.
The first of the Starlit Fathomsearchers developed hides of the clearest, darkest nights, but as the oracles' skills in star-scrying grew and their collective understanding of the study expanded, so too did their coloration, eventually spanning most shades the sky itself might take on. Those blessed with the filigree upon their faces are believed to be marked for leadership among the sect; those who develop cryptic runes along their sides consider their (still extremely cryptic) meanings as guidance on their search.
It is not, however, uncommon for one's birthstars to be obscured by a cloudy pattern - also a source of deep study and debate, for when seeking a missing god, the hidden stars become (very arguably) more important than those that shine more plainly.
Blue-shaded Starlit Fathomsearchers bearing none of these prestigious birthsigns, however, must be cautious in attempting study of glowing bugs in public spaces, lest they be mistaken for Astralia wish-granters. There is little more distracting to one's starscry than the excitable pestering of hatchlings with boundless desires, nonexistent boundaries, and occasionally a ruthless determination to conflate the skills of the two subspecies by making wishes to bring back the Tidelord. Repeatedly.
