Biography

Sometimes unique genes are passed down through the generations, dragons that dwelled within the Arcane Flight were sometimes prone to having strange and unusual reactions to the high concentration of magics that flowed freely there. Sometimes such an overdose of intense magic didn't manifest itself again for many generations, which was the case for Calcite.

She is the 8th generation on her father's side, tracing back to her ancestor Rosa who had such an influx of arcane magics that it an manifested it's self in crystal-like shards that moved down their head and neck, changing his physical make-up in a way.

Though how it manifested for the young half-breed was that she grew long, flowing locks of hair that seemed to be mixed with, what her parents would always compare to as kelp in appearance, though it was soft like the rest of the mane. When she was a hatchling they would keep it short so that she didn't become tangled in it when she ran around to play, but as she grew older she insisted that she wanted it to grow long. She thought it was a beautiful shade of colors that stood out against her scales in such a way that she thought it complimented it. Though when she got older and was able to care for it herself, they had no problem allowing her to grow it as long as she wanted as long as she was able to keep it from getting tangled and knotted, as it had a tendency to do that when she had been younger and as a hatchling she would cry in pain when her parents would try to comb it out, which is what lead to them finally deciding to cut it.

As she grew older, Calcite developed a love of collecting old things, little trinkets and items she would find while out exploring, things from Dragonkins past that had been lost to time and looked fascinating to her. Keeping them in her room to examine and admire. It had reached a point that she dreamed of traveling to Dragonhome and becoming part of a archeological dig in an attempt to uncover more lost treasure from a time before even the Ancient breeds were created.

Eventually she gathered up some supplies and bid her family farewell. If she didn't pursue her dream she would never discover the lost histories of Sorneith, plus she would like to discuss her theories and ideas with dragons who shared the same like mindedness that she shared.

Though at some point, Calcite had become lost. She had never left her home before and the guide she had hired had only agreed to take her to the boarder. Though Calcite was confident that she could find her way to her destination, dragons have been traveling like this for centuries, surely she could make the trip herself and maybe discover a few different things along the way that she might not discovered on her own. She was in high spirits, knowing that no matter what she was going to find something of interest and would put it into her traveling bag to ask questions once she found older and wiser dragons than herself who could answer her questions.

Even now, Calcite could not answer the question how she had gotten so lost that she ended up in the Southern Icefields, yet she finds herself among the frozen ice floes that drifted, almost aimlessly, through the waters.

Being born of the Fire Flight, she was able to keep herself warm with her own fire magic, and she would argue her long mane did offer some warmth if she curled up underneath it and allowed it to cover her entire body. Though she would not let this little detour ruin her dream, there had to be some artifacts buried within the snow and ice, and with her natural fires she would be able to dig and melt her way to whatever was buried beneath the frozen ground.

Every hardship simply offered a new opportunity to learn something new, either about the history of the world or even herself, and it pushed her creativity to guarantee her own survival in an environment she wasn't sure of.

Though even with her fire, Calcite was not prepared for the harsh cold that the Southern Icefields had, and she truly wondered how any dragon was able to survive down here and not become a frozen statue, dead and preserved in the ice.

At some point, Calcite had done the worst thing anyone could do when they become too cold, she fell asleep. Though luck was clearly on her side, for when she opened her eyes again she was in a large cavern, wrapped around in thick furs that allowed her body temperature to slowly be raised to a point that she once more could return to the world of the awake. Understandably she was confused, for she remembered falling asleep at her camp, curled up in as tight as a ball as she could be beneath her hair and with the small fire she could start from some pages of a notebook she had kept, using the ones she hadn't written on yet, but the fire must have died out at some point. She found herself being greeted by the gentle voice of a white hooded Tundra, who she figured must have been the one who found her and brought her there.

Given something warm to drink to help bring her body temperature back up to a proper level she learned she had actually been found by the scouting party and brought in. They had no reason to go out of their way to help her, but Calcite was grateful that they did and she told them that she would gladly return the favor one day.

Though she couldn't help but notice how different some of the dragons were, and both Katrun and Minerva complimented her mane, which made Calcite feel warmer than any drink or blankets could make her feel. Most dragons outside of her birth clan had made comments about it, how could a Nocturne have such a mane? Even when she explained she had Wildclaw in her heritage, and even more arcane remnants from her ancestors, it still felt a lot to constantly have to explain her own natural form.

Not to mention, they seemed fascinated in learning about some of the things she had collected throughout her life and the history she had garnered from some of the items through hours of studying and asking question from the older dragons that had lived in her clan. Though this group could barely call themselves a clan, she couldn't deny that every clan had to start from the ground up at the beginning and this was just another sign of that.

Hermes insisted she stay for awhile until he felt she was truly well enough to travel, as well as it was important for her to wait for the weather to improve or else she would end up right back where she started, it didn't matter about the fire that naturally burned inside her, if the wind blew hard enough it would blow it out.

While Calcite stayed there she began to wonder what it would be like if she allowed herself to stay, just for a little while longer.

So when the day came when Hermes said it was safe for her to travel, she instead busied herself with helping around with the daily duties of the den. She wasn't quite sure if she should straight ask to join or wait for an invitation, but she got her answer at the end of the day when the other half-breed Nocturne, named Minerva, showed her to a small area that would belong to Calcite, which gave her the answer to her question she didn't even ask.

Calcite has become the clans first historian, keeping track of the day to day tasks of the clan, making notes of who joined and when, starting with her first entry was the day when she joined. This brought a smile to her face. She hadn't given up her dream of traveling to Dragonhome to join a dig, she simply was taking a small detour and experiencing other parts of life, with a brand new clan and brand new friends.
