B I O G R A P H Y

______ Sensitive and kind, Ruth had always been uneasy with the thought of death. Not dying per say but coming back after. She had seen the effect their heritage had had on her father. Patriarch was a shell of the dragon he’d been before he had died!
She awkwardly avoided the training sessions with her siblings and the long hours of studying. No, she much preferred to sneak away to her studio where she could mold her feelings into the world – creating pottery artfully embellished with her own imaginings of the spirits beyond. Alas, her family wanted her able to protect herself should death come for her and she was training with the rest of her siblings. Though… It didn’t help when death came for her.

Ruth became aware of the pressure first.
It was dark and it felt like an entire bullephant was on her chest. Her brothers! They’d been attacked and she couldn’t *breath*-! The blackness around her was cut by the arrival of glowing eyes. The sharp gaze of a scaleback leveled before her.
“I know of your kind. I have a need and *you*, dear one, are being offered a second chance.”

______ After an ambush that left Ruth’s chest split, her family genuinely thought she would pass. But some spiritual intervention and the removal of a lung left Ruth alive – if somewhat impaired. She’s grateful for this second chance though and determined not to become less of herself like her father had. The labor of battle is too taxing for her, but she has found joy in helping her new clan accept that all things pass. She still creates pottery, and this is in fact, part of how she conducts the funeral rites she now over sees as the Merry Marauders undertaker. The clan will gather and work together to create the urn for the ashes of their beloved. Add more later? Neater.

Memento mori (Latin: "remember that you have to die") is the medieval Latin Christian theory and practice of reflection on mortality, especially as a means of considering the vanity of earthly life and the transient nature of all earthly goods and pursuits.

Memento mori has been an important part of ascetic disciplines as a means of perfecting the character by cultivating detachment and other virtues, and by turning the attention towards the immortality of the soul and the afterlife.

This curse would be traced down his lineage. All Vigil's children were destined to die, like any dragon. But they would be given a second chance. It was up to the children if they would accept the bargain.
Ruth is a Creepy Mortician under the Undertaker archetype: Many of them take roles in their clans overseeing funerary rites, and the whole point is to help dragonkin deal with death maturely and joyfully.
