Tempestuous crooned over her hatchling, grooming his scales while humming a haunting lullaby. Her other two hatchlings were likely off with their father in the clan’s kitchen, trying to sneak tasty treats while he wasn’t looking. But this third hatchling was hers. Hers to dote over, to protect, to mold. Yes, there was much she had to teach him.

A twisted sort of maternal pride glowed in her eyes as she looked into Corvus’ own emerald ones. She could see that familiar look of ambition and guile lurking behind an innocent exterior.

Tempestuous wasn’t wrong. As Corvus grew, he stayed glued to his mother’s side, learning all of her devious tricks firsthand. By the time he was old enough to leave his birthclan, he had become so deceptive that even Tempestuous herself couldn’t tell when he was lying or telling the truth. Calcifer had cried for days when Corvus’ siblings left, but Tempestuous didn’t shed a single tear. Sure, deep down she was sad to see him go, but more than anything, she was pleased. Pleased with the little monster she had unleashed upon the world.
