Biography

Brown Birdskull Legband Swift lay stretched out along the pale branch, his tail twined around it for security. Chin resting on the bark, he watched as Shadiya and Missive worked on paring the queen's report down until it was short enough to send back through the warp. It wasn't as though there was much to report, but Shadiya was a completionist and took surveying their new home just as seriously as she did their mission to scout for portal magic. If she could, she'd make a detailed list of everything they encountered as well as her thoughts on it.

He didn't smile, but there was a softness in his heart as he watched her pace, her tail lashing and her wings vibrating with annoyance. She was so serious and earnest about everything. It made her intense and sometimes difficult to deal with. It could also make her great.

That potential wasn't why he followed her, though. He didn't stay close by her side just because she was a queen--his queen--or because it was the word of the Old Queen who had formed their swarmlet and sent them out into the world.

He couldn't have said what feeling held him there, a flicker of flame to her shadow. Only that he was her shoulder to lean against, the eyes at her back, the wing-hum in tune with hers. They were siblings-of-circumstance, but he thought that it had to be more than that, the way they fit together.

When he was with her, he felt complete.
