The group of now five began their journey to find assistance. Soon, they encountered a Gaoler who was clearly afflicted in the same way as them. He was shambling about seemingly aimlessly, though Nesta soon realised with horror that he was still attempting to go about his daily tasks as usual, unaware of his deterioration. He was unable to speak, but gestured to a fallen log in a lake when asked for his name. It is unclear whether 'Driftwood' was his original name - or if that was even what he was trying to communicate - but he seemed content with it. Cenere made the point that they couldn't just leave it here, so with them Driftwood went.
