Night, fidgety as ever, was certainly not comforted by Chathin. You would be hard-pressed to find a dragon who was, really. The general gloom his reading tent invited with its black walls and ceiling stuffed with black birdcages - all empty, as far as Night could tell, which somehow made it worse - weighed heavily on his clients.
With a snap of his fingers, a set of cards flew down to Chathin’s hands from one of the many birdcages, so sharp in their descent that Night feared that the reader would be impaled. But the tundra caught them in a practiced scoop and beckoned him.
“Choose two cards, visitor.”
Card One wrote:
Night drew forwards a card of a wizened old man holding a lantern dangerously close to his face.
“The Hermit,” Chathin said.]
Chathin cleared his throat.
“In this spread, the first card represents an inquiry, and the second one, the answer. The Hermit is a card many are quick to define by its implication - solitude, and withdrawal. While it can certainly take on these meanings, I imagine that your hermit offers more than its surface offers. See how closely the Hermit brings the lantern to his face? He has greatly illuminated the path immediately before him, and with a turn, can do the same for the one behind. Yet it does little for what comes next, or what had come. Did he stumble on his descent upwards? What other hazards lay beyond? The Hermit has a wise head on his shoulders, but even the wisest of us can lack foresight.”
“The Ten of Cups is a card many of my clients pray make an appearance, and seldom does. It is a representation of absolute prosperity, particularly in the realm of relationships - romantic or otherwise.”
“Your question, etched deep into your soul, seems to be: what am I missing, and what will I miss? You live in fear of being bound to your name, a creature fruitlessly grasping at his sole source of light for comfort. This light has led you thus far - perhaps a relationship? A sister? - but has forced your attention upon it. You need not abandon your light, but only withdraw it from your cheek. You may give your mind to both it and the world around you. Only then will you be free to look heavenwards towards a better life - for both you and your light.”

This card felt far out of place within Chathin’s domain, Night thought. A pair of dragons pointed towards the sky, where an arch of cups suspended above them in a permanent rainbow.
