"I was looking for knowledge about the magic of this world... until I found the dragon who would spark that magic inside of me."
STORY
Everybody knows that faes are commonly found in large colonies, with dozens, maybe hundreds of members, as fae are quite plentiful in nature. Callicles' family was not very different... Although his way of life differed from that of the rest of his clan. Callicles' parents weren't around for his birth. They never were around at any point in his life, actually, and to this day, he still doesn't remember their faces. It was always his aunt, Herminia, who cared for him, as his parents were always abroad in diplomacy or commerce missions. His family had come from a long lineage of the first Children of the Arcanist (at least, that is what his aunt would say). Because of this, some of his family members commonly left for the Observatory to serve Him, and were exalted in honorable ceremonies. Their noble blood and the riches they had amassed, had earned their clan a very high status, and access to the Isles' libraries and vast research grounds, as well as crystal harvesting stations. His aunt Herminia led a large unit of harvesters of magical crystals, that she later sold across the Isles. She was a negotiator and had a practical mindset, but she did her very best to educate young Callicles to become a perfect arcane disciple. She would often tell him stories about his parents, and teach him what they'd discovered in their travels, in the hopes that he would grow to be as promising a scholar as them. As time passed, Callicles proved to be a bright student, and would make a habit of memorizing alchemical formulae, medicinal herbs, constellations and planets. He was not so interested in what was beyond the stars, however. His concern was more... down-to-earth. He had seen many family members leave to serve the Arcanist in a war for dominance, to never come back... and he felt compelled to do something about this chaotic world. He hadn't really gotten to know many of them, as he was always busy with studies, but he still had been blessed with deep, burning feelings for every creature on earth. He knew that many dragons were in need of somebody who could help them heal and recover, somebody who not only understood anatomy, but also spiritual needs. That is why he became a doctor, or, as his own patients would call him, a healer. And he was, indeed, one of the best at his job in the Isles. His work gave him purpose and happiness. Even so, as he became a full-grown adult, Callicles felt that something was missing in his life. His life had turned into a routine, and he was missing some wonder. He was missing a dream, a true dream, a meaning to it all. He went back to research, and started at the Wandering Contagion. He had a theory that Plague creatures, who lived and thrived in such extreme conditions, held the answer to the world's most dangerous illnesses and ailments, and that Plague disciples themselves didn't see the potential that their territory had. Could that be his dream? To find the secret to end the world's pain and suffering? Callicles parted in dangerous missions into Plague territory, against his aunt's better judgement; eager, convinced he would find something. He took samples of insects, birds and plants, and spent countless hours in his study. It was all for naught. There seemed to be something about that magic that he couldn't grasp, maybe something that only Plague disciples would know. It was frustrating. One day, news came that his parents had perished. In the middle of their research, they had stumbled upon a dominance battleground, and it had been too late for them to flee. He hadn't really known them, but a wave of fear seemed to pass through Callicles. This world was much too cruel for a healer to see his work recognized. He wondered, once again, if it was really his destiny to keep risking his life for a research article that nobody might ever care about. He was depressed, and left his studies. All his motivation to go on had been lost. Everything changed, though, when his aunt convinced him to go to the Grand Conference that the Arcanist was holding during the Starfall Celebration. It was there that he first listened to Pinaria, the youngest of all the lecturers in the room. Her discoveries blew his mind, and her story warmed his heart. Even before he had talked to her, he knew, somehow... he was in love. After the lecture, he ran to her in awe. They talked about science, and about dreams. She told him she wanted to open a magic academy. He told her he wanted to give purpose to the abandoned crystal palace that his parents had left behind. Even before they realized it, their bond had been settled, and their project had begun. Since then, Callicles has never been happier.
PERSONALITY
Callicles is a very kind-hearted dragon, and his greatest wish is for every dragon flight to welcome the others and share knowledge without more senseless fighting. However, he has known first-hand how cruel the world really is, and can often be scared or nervous in front of menacing situations. He is very much aware of how frail faes are, and tries to keep his distance from danger whenever possible. That, though, doesn't stop him from feeling curiosity toward new possibilities and people, and will most certainly try to give others a chance before judging. He has a tendency to connect deeply with others, and gets attached easily. He is patient to the point of no return, especially with his wife, whom he loves more than anything; and with his children, which leads him to tolerate too much sometimes.
